Had visitors from down south and took them a run out to Garstang. We had late lunch about 2 ish, I think they stop serving about 2-30 but even at that time it was very busy The young lady managed to find us a table which didn't have much room but within minutes she came back and said some people had just left and there was lots more room at that one, we were really please she had taken the time to find a better table for our needs.
I've been to this restaurant many times in the past and have always had good food so we had no qualms about taking our visitors. As always the food was superb, I had roast ham sandwiches stuffed with ham and their home made chips the others had moussaka, and two had the chicken with a leek and cheese sauce. All cooked to perfection. Will definitely be back.

6 of us visited the Royal Oak for dinner as a family. The waiting times were ridiculously long & they could have done with more staff. 1 of us has coeliac disease & ordered an easy grilled salmon. The chef said the chips were not gluten free so they'd serve it with potatoes instead which they guaranteed were gluten free. The plate arrived with chips, so we explained what had been ordered & how they couldn't have the salmon now as it was covered in the chips. They took it back to change & straight after she felt awful & was in pain for the next few hrs. It was obvious they had just swapped the chips for potatoes & ignored us.

1 of us then went to the toilet & watched the bar lady go to the toilet & walk straight back to the bar without washing her hands which was sickening.

The vegan dish was very small & not cheap. The other 4 said the food was stingy with meat, 1 felt sick & none of us would go back again. Very disappointed & disgusted.

Management response:Responded 4 October 2016

I am sorry you had a bad experience at the Royal Oak, unfortunately I was on a few days leave so did not hear about any of this sorry tale until I returned. Staff Training has been put in place about hygiene & also about how to deal with all allergy sufferers.
Please accept my aplogies.

The food here is amazing. Every time I go I have something different and it's always great, the restaurant is old worldy but such a lovely place. If your in Garstang and would like food this is the place to go - make sure your hungry as the portions are filling

Always had nice food here when we called in for lunch, usually have either the beef(rare)sandwiches or the prawn ones, served with salad and we have a portion of chips also.Good choice of drinks, served by pleasant staff, miserable man behind the bar spoils the place. He first point of contact never smiles or pleasant at all, needs a crash course in hospitality.

The guy behind the bar was miserable we had to wait nearly 20 mins for sandwiches and chips. The chips were chippy chips and looked like the dregs. The Sandwiches were good though
