Owner description: The museum stands high on Castle Hill, in the shadow of the Castle Keep, an image which has dominated Clitheroe's skyline for over 800 years. The historic landmark of Clitheroe, in the heart of the Ribble Valley offers a day of exploration for all the family. Our intriguing galleries will take you on a journey through 350 million years of history, heritage and geology of the local area. We have lots of activities for children in the museum - a competition hunt, dressing-up costumes, explorer back-packs (with hat and magnifying glass), craft activities and various interactive displays. Come and enjoy a fun-filled day of exploration and learning.

Thank you for posting a review. As well as the outdoor attractions in the castle grounds we also have a great family-friendly museum with lots of activities to keep the children entertained. There is also an art exhibition and café on site.

The castle museum is extremely informative regarding the castle’s history and also the local history of Clitheroe and the surrounding areas. Unfortunately, we were pushed for time and would like to return to pay another visit. It wasn’t too busy considering it is the summer holidays which was another bonus.
Views from the keep across Clitheroe and the surrounding areas are breathtaking and well worth the climb to the top. The grounds surrounding the castle are well kept and pleasant to wander through.
The only negative aspect was the cafe which charged me £1.70 for a small bottle of water-extortionate! No wonder very few people appeared to be eating in the cafe and brought a picnic to eat outside instead.

Thank you for your review. The castle is situated on a small hill in the centre of Clitheroe and is easily accessible from the town centre. Lots of fun of activities for the children - dressing-up clothes, crafts and a competition hunt inside the museum and lots of play areas outside in the grounds.

The castle is a great attraction for young children with treasure hunts in the castle. The castle grounds are extensive with a very good play park and grassy surround for ball games. The cafe/restaurant is very good for tea or coffee and light snacks.
