We went to the Mechanical Elephant as we were down in Broadstairs for Easter and Margate is just a short bus ride away. When you first go in you could be put off by the sort of people that are in there (I don't mean to be rude but they seem very loud and I think drink there because of the cheap prices)
If you go upstairs two flights there is a small restaurant and bar where you can order your food and drink and it is much quieter. It also has a balcony that looks out over the sea - but this is where the smokers go so the doors are always closed.
My husband ordered the chicken tikka curry which came with rice, mango chutney, poppadoms and nan bread and as I was not that hungry, I had the chicken tikka bites which came with a yoghurt and corriander sauce. We also ordered a bottle of Hardy's Chardonnay.
Both meals were excellent and the whole bill came to £19 - brilliant value for money.
My only criticism is that they seem to only have one or two waiters/waitresses on duty and the tables never seem to be cleared and the whole place looks dirty and uninviting. We asked a waitress if she could clear a table for us while we ordered our food and she was great and apologised for the mess and made sure we were left with a clean and tidy table!
For the extensive menu and value for money you cannot beat it.
We will be back.
