We went to the Mechanical Elephant as we were down in Broadstairs for Easter and Margate is just a short bus ride away. When you first go in you could be put off by the sort of people that are in there (I don't mean to be rude but they seem very loud and I think drink there because of the cheap prices)

If you go upstairs two flights there is a small restaurant and bar where you can order your food and drink and it is much quieter. It also has a balcony that looks out over the sea - but this is where the smokers go so the doors are always closed.

My husband ordered the chicken tikka curry which came with rice, mango chutney, poppadoms and nan bread and as I was not that hungry, I had the chicken tikka bites which came with a yoghurt and corriander sauce. We also ordered a bottle of Hardy's Chardonnay.

Both meals were excellent and the whole bill came to £19 - brilliant value for money.

My only criticism is that they seem to only have one or two waiters/waitresses on duty and the tables never seem to be cleared and the whole place looks dirty and uninviting. We asked a waitress if she could clear a table for us while we ordered our food and she was great and apologised for the mess and made sure we were left with a clean and tidy table!

For the extensive menu and value for money you cannot beat it.

We will be back.

This is a nice pub not far from Dreamland. With Weatherspoons you know what you are getting, cheap food and drink. Good location on seafront. They had rattler cyder which was nice, you must try it if they still have it, although think it was just the end of the cider festival they were doing. Would visit again when in the area.

We spent 3 days in Margate, we ate here a lot, breakfast each day and a couple of evenings.
We couldnt fault the food or the drinks.
The staff make this place special, they are smiley, welcoming and friendly.... They are also knowledgeable about their menus and efficient (efficiency isn't something wetherspoons are known for, other spoon's staff could learn a lot from this team)
The local customers can be a bit loud, but it's a big enough place to find a quieter spot to sit.....

Thank Penny V

My parter and I went to Margate for a wander around in the snow which was lovely but freezing, so decided to pop in to Spoons to warm up and have some lunch .....
Well it was bloody freezing in there most people were sitting in their coats. I asked the barman and his reply was heating hasn't worked for ages and Management know all about it but are doing nothing.
We ordered dinner which was great we've never had a bad meal in any Wetherspoons but what with the heating issue and the general run down look and feel of the place would not be returning.
These are some pics of the view from the back window where we sat and the gents toilets....
Gross

Hi,
I'm sorry that you got such a negative response from one of our team, our heating was indeed broken we had however called an engineer and were waiting for them to attend and fix the issue.
In terms of the décor and the toilets we are awaiting reinvestment works which will hopefully resolve this issue.

Kind Regards
