We took a very dear, elderly friend to eat in the restaurant at the Royal Hotel for our annual celebration of his wedding anniversary. The staff were extremely accommodating ensuring we had a table that suited all our needs. The menu offers a wide selection at reasonable prices, the portions were good and all freshly cooked. We had the deep fried baby squid (delicious) and the salt beef, capers and gherkin croquettes (lovely but quite filling) at about £6 each followed by fish and chips, bouillabaisse and wing of skate (£12-14) and we managed a couple of puddings too. There is a comprehensive wine list - we had a delightful 2016 Chablis at £26 and, as a special treat, an excellent Kentish sparkling wine at £42. The service was good, the ambience pleasant so all in all a very enjoyable evening. Recommended and excellent value.

Having had some glorious days on the Kent coast we had to take shelter in Deal during an almighty storm that we could see coming across the channel and splitting the sky in two.

Being right on the beach, we could leave our son running along the beach marvelling and generally being crazy about the skies, whilst we ordered drinks and food, firstly outside under brollies then rapidly moving inside!

Delicious food, something a bit different for the area as quite modern and international and good drinks.

Great service, they even grandad-sat and kept him topped up with beer whilst the rest of us fools attempted to walk around Deal in the pouring rain - clever grandad!

Would definitely recommend, disabled access easy, parking at busy times maybe not so.

We visit Deal around 3/4 times a year and drive from Essex.
The Royal is always our first port of call and this is mainly due to its lovely atmosphere and super friendly, thoughtful staff.
The beer is cold and crisp, food is really tasty and the views are sublime.
The pub/restaurant is full of couples and families and you'll never hear swearing or see bad behaviour - just pleasant and relaxing.
This place is definitely standing out because of its lovely staff - attentive, patient, keen to please. All are a credit to the place and we look forward to returning for our next visit.

Dropped in here for midweek lunch. Have been here quite a few times for drinks and coffee but first time for a long time for something to eat. Can't fault the staff, really polite and helpful. However, apparently there were specials on offer but we weren't made aware until after the meal.
The food was OK. The cod in the "cod & chips" was slightly overdone and a bit tasteless. The hake was similarly overdone, in fact, at first glance it looked like a chicken fillet, and the sauce was quite overpowering. The burger was Ok but slightly burnt (actually which I quite like anyway but not to everybody's taste)
None of this was enough to complain and overall it was OK - but that's all on this occasion.
