We lived in that area for many years, and were frequent users of the hotel and it’s facilities before moving away so were looking forward to a return to our old haunt.

Firstly, the refurbishment of the common hotel areas were lovely, and the new furnishings were homely and comfortable, with a contemporary feel. Although the bedroom was unchanged, it remained a nice room, with good quality bedding, furnishings and the little extras (although we did struggle with the new Nespresso machine! But thankful to have a kettle too.)

We did go in the swimming pool, sauna and gym, but early, before the children were up and about. It was lovely to swim some proper lengths, and the lady in the spa was very friendly and helpful.

However, what really let down our experience was the restaurant. I rang up about two weeks before our stay and spoke to a lady in the restaurant (with hard to understand English) to specifically book a table. Assuming this was all done, when we checked in, I jovially asked for confirmation of the time our table was booked for, only to be told there was no such booking. The receptionist said she would book us in again....luckily there were spaces. When we duly arrived at the restaurant we were told we still had no booking. Despite our “two attempts”. Not a good, nor welcoming start.

We had the paella and the steak for mains. I had to request the “side salad” the menu stated accompanied the paella and the steak was definitely more well done than medium rare as requested. There was nothing wrong in principle with the paella except it lacked flavour of any kind, and was utterly bland. The steak looked lost on the plate, and at that price (£31) should have had a mushroom, watercress, or something else on it. I used my knife and fork to eat the unshelled prawns as no finger bowl for dipping/ cleaning fingers was supplied, and would have expected this in a hotel of this standing.

I had the sticky toffee pudding for dessert, and again although adequate lacked any “wow” to it.

The wines were considerably more than we remembered - £31.50 now for the cheapest prosecco. Altogether this was a very expensive meal for two.

It felt like the meal was a “special” price but for just an ordinary meal, which quite frankly we could have had at a Harvester...... or any of the numerous nearby eateries on the doorstep. And unless the hotel ups it’s game, that is what we will do next time.

Turning to breakfast, we couldn’t decide if it was just cost cutting or perhaps a you a different buffet/ menu for families at the weekend (especially a bank holiday?) to weekdays, but the choices were seriously reduced to our previous visits and no choices from a table menu (smoked salmon, kippers, etc..). We asked a waitress if we could have an omelette and she said she didn’t know what one was ( yes, she really said that). So we asked someone else nearer the kitchen who duly disappeared, came back and said no. All the ingredients would have been in house and it would have only taken 10 minutes for a professional ( or even for me!) to have made it, so extremely disappointing service. Such treats are part of staying in a hotel.

Myself and my husband recently got married here on Saturday 28th April.
We just want to say a massive thank you to this amazing hotel for giving us such a perfect wedding.
Myself and matt first met here several years ago, so to return and marry where our love story began was very special indeed.
From the moment we had a show round from Georgia the wedding manager, right up until the day itself which was run by George every detail was looked after and covered, no question was ever left unanswered.
Our family and friends thoroughly enjoyed the day and it will be a talking point for a long time to come we are sure. From the warm welcome from all of the hotel staff, organisation, service, amazing food and taking care of our every need we are so grateful.

Many Thanks again from the new Mr and Mrs Harris-Debonnaire xx

Business trip.

Room very average. No fridge. Average cleanliness. Breakfast 2/5.

Ate a couple of nights in the Parsons. Again pretty average. Beer flat.

They do deals each night which again are ok.

Could be better very easily.

Thank you for your taking the time to review following your experiences.

I have asked for this review to be transferred to our Lodge at Solent page (that is adjoined to the Parsons Collar Pub & Kitchen). All bedrooms here at the hotel do have fridges, so I am presuming that this was added incorrectly.

We do hope that we have the opportunity in welcoming you back to the hotel or Lodge in the future.

Kind Regards,
Dan Wilson

We stayed overnight as we were attending a wedding in The Skylark Golf and Country club nearby.
We weren't able to check in early and as the wedding started at 1330 and check in is from 1400 which meant we didnt check in until at 1am. The restaurant Manager was at the desk but was unable to check us in so asked us to use the phone to contact the night manager. Night manager arrived and checked us in. The window in our room wouldnt open and the night manager responded to this quickly and changed us to another room nearby.
The next morning, I was startled by the housekeeper as i got out of the shower. Our room change obviously hadnt been communicated but she was very apologetic. no harm done. 30 minutes later the housekeeper entered the room again whilst I was dressing!?
we didnt have breakfast as it seemed quite pricey and from what other guests / friends had reported it wasn't worth the money.

Overall it was an ok stay, nothing to write home about. The grounds are very lovely though and I am keen to try the Lodge next door. The rooms were clean although the bathroom was very dated and tired looking, new silicon applied over old, patched up rather than refurbished.

Booked this hotel via Paultons for my three year old's birthday. Upon arrival we were given a family room which had the sofa bed on a some kind of raised floor with a step there was also a glass top table sticking out from under a dresser why??? My daughter tripped on the step several times and due to the very smaller size of the room nearly fell on the wooden step. Room was totally unacceptable safety wise for children and far too small. Only good points about room wad that it was nicely refurbushed (accept for bathroom). Due to this we requested another room, which the hotel done without any problem. We were moved to a suite which was much better with lots of room for the kids.
Swimming was great not too busy and clean! Vip robes for the kids was a nice touch.
After returning from dinner locally we were met by a crowd of people who must have been attending a wedding reception in the function room. They were smoking and drinking outside which for a family hotel is not good. Management should ensure that this is not happening and put a smoking area away from the hotel entrance.
Breakfast follwing morning was really good with varied selection.
All in all I would not stay he again due to the some of the issues above. Was quite expensive in comparison to other hotels but the hotels offered with Peppa Pig package were limited.
