Nice hotel in the middle of the town. Close to the medieval church and near the old station with the steam trains. Good food and nice pub with terrace. Good parking place on enclosed grounds next to the hotel.

Booked at the last minute to visit friends nearby who had become ill. Good welcome on arrival by manager with everything explained, free parking, allocated a quiet room which was quite large to many hotels we've stayed in, the bathroom was well equipped and up to date, breakfast was very good as was the evening meal we ordered on our first night. All in all very good value for money enjoyed our stay and would definitely return.

Newly decorated rooms and very well decorated bathrooms, fast free Wifi and decent TV and beds. The food was only average and it'd be great to be able to open the windows and have the curtains closed at the same time (windows open inwards) but overall surprisingly swish and in a great central location.

We visited Alton for a quick stop over prior to a Wedding Nearby.

We chose the Swan due it its location & price.

We arrived at 3pm, Reception is a bit underwhelming, I can imagine it was the front of a cloak room in a former life

However, quick check if & we went to our room, unfortunately it had not been serviced, looked like some teenagers had an all nighter in there, needless to say we returned to reception & were given another room

The room was pleasant enough, fairly big, bed was huge.

The positives were the size, the bed (also comfortable), TV. The hotel is also ideally located in the centre of Alton.

The negatives were the shower, poor pressure & offset which was weird, you have to almost stand out of the bath to use it. The room was also so hot & the windows only opened about 10cm, far from ideal. Finally the floors/walls have no soundproofing, therefore we had to listed to a couple have an hours conversation at 2am.

We used the bar area for a couple of drinks & breakfast. This was ok, although I found there was a common theme, this being the staff were extremely sarcastic. Maybe they thought it was humour, well I hope it was that.

Would I stay here again? Not sure I would. After all you book a bedroom to eventually have some sleep, with the heat & noise I’m not sure you would get that.

My husband and I as well as other family members use the swan on a fairly regular basis, 3 times in the last 2 months.

The hotel is great, the rooms are recently refurbished and the check in and check our experience is great.

The rooms are a blend of old and new with great furniture and decor. The bathrooms are clean, bright and modern.

The bar is popular with locals and residents and free parking is a bonus. The location of the hotel is great.

There is much room for improvement when breakfast is concerned and this is mainly down to the service in particular and urchin like the serving staff really can't be bothered.

When we made an error in explaining what 3 of the people wanted (it wasn't difficult just different ways of saying the same thing) there was eye rolling.

When asked for extra coffee there was eye rolling and then a 5 minute wait despite there not being any visible reason why.

Worst of all though was when the table was being cleared. Food was being scraped from one plate to another by the waiter which isn't so bad although not something that should be done at the table when people are still sitting there drinking coffee. And when the plate receiving the food is in front of someone eating fruit and yoghurt from a bowl and when the plate receiving the food is the furthest one away from the waiters that food bounces on the plate splashing and narrowly missing the person sitting there it is not ideal. I appreciate it is early on a Sunday and not everyone can be happy in their work but basic manners and service standards did tarnish the stay. It all gave the impression of not actually caring much.

The breakfast itself was good, well cooked and a good choice.
