Description: The Bell Inn, set in the lovely historic village of Horndon on the Hill, is a 15th Century Coaching Inn run by the same family for over 75 years. The two busy bars have the warm, friendly atmosphere of a 'proper' pub. There's an open fire, numerous ales on hand pump and a top-class wine by the glass list. The menu changes daily, using seasonal and local produce where possible. Upstairs, and in the Georgian properties next door but one, are 27 individually styled bedrooms featuring both modern and period twists that remain sympathetic to the beautiful buildings in which they reside. The Bell is featured in all the 'serious' guides and has won numerous industry awards including being recommended in The Times Cool Hotel Guide 2014 and The Sunday Times Food List as one of the 10 best gastropubs in the UK.

We thought we'd visit, the bell, we have been before, but it was a long time ago, and it was awesome, my husband chose pork and leek sausages, and he said the crispy fried onion rings, we're the best, i had venison shepherds pie, and it was absolutely delicious, a lovely beer and wine selection, and the service was great, all in all we had just such a fantastic time, and we can't wait to revisit

We have eaten at The Bell many times over the years, both lunches and dinners, as a couple and in groups. We have tried other places within a 20-30 mile radius, but always end up back at The Bell, because there is nowhere better. Other than one or two instances, the food has always been superb. The starters in particular could win awards. The service is always excellent, the decor is genuine old style English pub (i.e. not a manufactured reproduction), with colourful hanging baskets outside. They have a good selection of ales and a really good, informative wine list (with a decent selection of wines at the bar too). Given the high quality of the food, it is excellent value. Only quibbles are the difficulty of getting through on the phone - they really need to sort this out - and their salads can be a bit bland. But thoroughly recommended overall.

Was a very busy Monday night but service was excellent. Ordered scallops and mackerel for starters. Portions were minuscule and I believe scallops were frozen. For nigh on £10 they should at least be fresh including roes. Saying that very palatable. Mains were cottage pie and pork mignon. Both dishes were excellent and well presented.

We had lunch today at the Bell Inn, we had a good lunch in a cosy atmosphere.
We chose a steak and kidney pie which came with mashed potatoes and hot cucumber ( unusual but very good) and Chicken Breasts in a crispy crumb with herby buttered carrots and Chips.
Both meals were well cooked and presented well.
The service was great too!

This is the third time we stayed here (this year!) and it did not disappoint!

I planned the trip for my boyfriends birthday and they helped with little added extras with regards to a birthday dessert etc too when eating in the Ostlers.

On this occasion we stayed in the Lady Hamilton Suite and room was delightful - great big bed and lovely features throughout, the bathroom was also lovely with a nice big bath to get lost into.

We also had dinner in The Ostlers which was pre-booked and the staff were great with food and drinks - keeping the cocktails coming :). Overall amazing experience yet again and cannot wait to return.
