We popped in here on a blisteringly hot day for a bite of lunch and a welcome pint.
Very friendly pub. Good fish and chips, very nice local Adnam’s beer. All perfect.

The Lord Nelson is a simple, elegant and substantial looking building close to the seafront. There are a number of wooden benches at the front enabling drinkers to enjoy a relaxed drink in the sunshine whist watching Southwold life go by. The pub has a rather nice sheltered sun trap garden too.
I arrived at The Lord Nelson right at their busiest time, bang on the 1 o'clock lunchtime rush when you could barely get to the bar. We were very lucky to grab a decent table in a quiet corner.
It says something about the quality of the staff that they calmly and rapidly served a large crowd at the bar, all the time staying friendly and pleasant. I soon found myself at the front of the queue being served. There were five hand pulls serving a good selection of Adnams cask beers and the two I tried were served nice and cool and were in perfect condition and very enjoyable.
The Lord Nelson is a thoroughly traditional pub with plenty of dark wood and lots of good solid features. You are guaranteed to feel comfortable here whether simply having a pint or two or enjoying a good meal.
The menu is interesting and well chosen with plenty of appropriate seafood choices. I chose the Beer Battered Haddock and my wife had the Nelson Burger. They both looked delicious and they turned out to be as good as they looked.
If your pleasure is enjoying a good pint and good food in a traditional coastal pub, then you can't go wrong by visiting The Lord Nelson in Southwold.

We visit Southwold regularly and always stay in The Crown. Although we like the hotel we are not great lovers of the restaurant. The answer is to visit The Nelson, couldn't ask for anywhere better. The staff, the food, the atmosphere and not to forget the beer are all 1st class. It's a lovely place just to sit and watch the world go by. Thank you.

We popped into the pub after a bracing walk along the front. Funny how wind and exercise makes you tired and thirsty! The pub was well-situated just as we came up from the front. Warm, comfortable, and with busy and friendly atmosphere. Nice choice of ciders and draft beers. Food was available but we did not eat.

We stopped here for lunch on a day trip to Southwold, we needed somewhere our dogs could come in to and this met the bill. We sat in the good sized beer garden and chose the crab sandwiches - they were the best I’ve ever eaten, with a hint of chilli and lime and served with scrumpy chips and a lightly dressed salad, this was an unexpectedly delicious treat.
The staff were all super friendly and helpful and it was overall a great pub experience.
Highly recommend.
