Mary-Ann's Polarriggen has a fantastic selection of food, which you should expect in Svalbard. Our dining plans changed drastically during our stay in Longyearbyen after visiting Mary-Ann's the first time. We decided to try it a couple of times. The ambiance is very special in every room. During the polar day or polar night it is great to sit in the giant greenhouse, filled with furs, plants, and pictures of history. The whole place is full of the history of Svalbard, from trapping to coal mining. The service is excellent and friendly. I would take the servers suggestions. As a chef myself, I have to say this is top quality food. Over our various nights, we tried Seal steak, whale steak, reindeer, cod fish, arctic char, and fish stew. Everything was just delicious. They also have a full bar, with a great bartender. The prices are very reasonable. The food tastes great, and is finished just perfectly, in a very plain style without too much spice or alternative taste, so you really taste the food the way it naturally tastes. If you opt to stay here, it is also comfortable, and they have a great livingroom where guests can chat. We have travelled here, and tried 5 restaurants and 4 hotels. Mary-Ann's is the best choice in my opinion. It is not over commercial ( as on main st. ) and you can find out about all that you need.
