Harma Boutique Hotel is in a top location, close to souvenir shops, supermarkets, markets, cafes, restaurants, bars, bus stops and booking agents. It's about 30 minutes by air-conditioned coaches to Heraklion (city and airport) and 45 minutes to Agios Nikolaos. The hotel rooms are situated in three separate buildings including one with the reception, a gym, business/computer room and restaurant. Our room was modern, clean, air-conditioned and reasonably sized with a small refrigerator (and freezer), hair dryer, basic crockery, TV, a kitchen sink and balcony with a partial view towards the ocean. Shower gel, hand soap and towels are provided, but there is no shampoo, hair conditioner, etc. Rooms are serviced daily and bedding and linen changed every second day. There is a lift as well as stairs to each level of the building. Unfortunately, our first impression of the room was less than positive. The bathroom door lock and shower tap fixture were broken, the safe wouldn't close, the phone didn't work and the hair dryer only worked intermittently. While the problems were fixed on day two, the one thing we couldn't change was the proximity to the 'beach'. The hotel is advertised as being directly on the beach. It is close to the ocean, but an actual beach is a couple of minutes' walk. Still, it's not far and you can hire sunbeds and umbrellas near trendy bars and restaurants. We highly recommend Med Cafe for delicious, creative cocktails! Harma is situated at the quieter end of the promenade. The area to the right (if you're facing the ocean) is less busy than the left, but both are worth seeing and experiencing. Harma's food and restaurant staff must be complimented. We booked the 'half pension' which included a daily buffet breakfast and dinner. I read a few negative reviews about the food before booking, but was pleasantly surprised by what was on offer. I found it to be of a high quality and catered to the tastes of tourists from Germany, Italy, France, the UK and Greece. We finished each night time meal with a free shot of Raki! The staff were friendly and professional. The pool area is small, clean and quiet. There's a rooftop area with chairs and tables and a view towards the sea, as well as a bar and sunbeds around the pool. There's also a grassed area behind the pool with sunbeds and umbrellas. Wifi is free-of-charge, but we found it to be quite slow so we occasionally used the (free) high-speed internet on the computers in the business room. Overall, we would recommend this hotel to couples and singles holidaying on a modest budget.
