We have just returned home after a relaxing 2-night stay at Yabbaloumba Retreat. Yabbaloumba Retreat is located on a picturesque and beautifully maintained 200-acre working property. My husband and I received a warm welcome from the lovely Liz (Barb & Lloyd’s friend) who gave us the friendly orientation.

As soon as we walked into our fully self-contained cottage we were welcomed by the soothing sounds of instrumental music. The cottage has a studio layout with tasteful décor and it is perched on top of a hill overlooking a magnificent mountain range and grazing land. We enjoyed our relaxing afternoon on the balcony admiring the beautiful view with our complimentary bottled of white wine and cheese platter. After a restful night’s sleep on our comfy king size bed, we cooked our complimentary full breakfast and enjoyed it while soaking up the morning sunshine. Freshly made croissants delivered to your door every morning is also a nice little treat.

There are lots to see and do in this region. For those who love nature and enjoy outdoor ventures, Conondale National Park have numerous Great Walks to offer – just turn right as soon as you exit the property and head to Booloumba Creek Day Use Area. More walking tracks are located in Charlie Moreland Day Use Area in Imbil’s State Forest. The owners of Yabbaloumba Retreat are happy for guests to walk through their property as long as you keep the gates as you found them – there are plenty of cattle, sheep, geese and birdlife. Exploring the nearby townships Kenilworth and Manley is another way to enjoy the day, with Cheese factories, coffee stops, cafes, galleries and many more options on offer. Manley’s Woolworths is worth a stop in, to gather up supplies for lunch and dinner. To help unwind in evenings you can immerse yourself in the generous size spa bath in the cottage or borrow some movies from the Retreat’s extensive DVD collection. Maybe you can even try your luck at fishing from the Australian Bass filled dam on the property at some stage during your stay.

Owners are warm, friendly and not intrusive, they are there to give a helping hand or sight seeing advice if needed. Our time here at Yabbaloumba Retreat was peaceful and relaxing. If you are searching for a place to recharge your batteries away from the hustle and bustle of city life, this is the place for you!

The cottages are perched on a saddle, with views to the east over the immaculate property; and to the west towards Mt Allen. Booloumba Creek dissects the 200 acre property and provides good walking. Cattle and sheep graze, and guinea hens and geese wander about. A large dam is stocked with bass and fishing rods are on hand.
The cottages are just perfect, with all mod cons, and everything works. The electric BBQ is a breeze to use. The wine, cheese platter and breakfast basket are perfect. The bed is massive. The hot water is hot. Fridge, stove top, microwave are top class. Heating and cooling work. All good.
Barb and Lloyd are friendly hosts. And you will be left alone if that is your desire.
Booloumba Creek camping areas and the forest drive to several scenic spots are literally just down the road. Maybe 5 minutes to camping area No 1. You need to pick up or download a map to find the best spots to visit and walk. Charlie Moreland, on Little Yabba Creek, is maybe 20 minutes drive away. This area is a bush walkers paradise. And 4 wheel drivers will find some good roads as well.
Just the property itself provides good walking, along the creek, or through the paddocks. One could easily take the complimentary wine and cheese down to the creek and be in a world of ones own, out of sight and away from the hordes.

Room Tip: All look the same from what we saw.

The yabbaloumba retreat was perfect for a romantic peaceful getaway. The hosts really made you feel welcome right from the start with a lovely bottle of wine and cheese platter. We definitely recommend the breakfast package as it was all in the fridge ready to prepare at your leisure with toasted croissants dropped off each morning. The room had everything you would need including a gas fireplace and spa overlooking the farm.

Well, what a fantastic place to stay, a little on the expensive side but with a sumptuous brekkie included, and warm croissants delivered to your door, this place exudes peace and quiet and beautiful views. Very friendly hosts and freedom from wifi and TV. Both are possible but not that good. The accomodation is excellent, with a great fireplace, spa, comfortable bed, and good facilities.
The Cabin is very clean and a lot of time is put into keeping everything shipshape. The complementary cheese platter and bottle of wine is nice, but I would like to be given the choice of red, white or sparkling, probably the only negative of the whole experience, and we had our own red and bubbly anyway, so the whole experience just great.

Room Tip: All cabins are the similar and are great

We arrived - to the middle of nowhere it seemed, to a series of four cabins perched on a hillside overlooking a working farm and an old very large Yabby farm waterbed that now serves as a gorgeous location for events, with an old (but newly built) barn alongside it that has been well set up for some grand old country ho-downs.
The friendly wave from Barb the owner as she climbed into her golf cart and directed us to the main house further up the hill ensured us that this was a friendly place, but boy were we in for a surprise.
After checking in and having a chat with our hostess who assured us of wine and a cheese platter being in the fridge ready for us, and that breakfast was included, we ventured back along the track and entered 'number 2' of the four identical cabins.
Wow - this is lovely... I said to my husband, who had found the place on Booking.com. As we inspected the place, we opened doors and cupboards, took in the simply fabulous perfect sized (for two) spa bath on the enclosed balcony part of the room, the massive and oooh-la-lah comfortable king sized bed that faced out to the view and breathed a huge sigh of contentment each. It was the perfect get away spot for two very tired and overworked people.
Over the next two days//nights (we extended to two when we got there having originially booked only one night) we walked the friendly farm, swam in the quaint swimming hole, sat on the desk, BBQd on that deck and unwound in the tub. We read, enjoyed the peace and tranquility and dined on the magnificent breakfasts provided as part of our very reasaonable fee. I have to say that the croissants were the best I've had in ages! And the eggs delicious!!

I can't recommend this place highly enough. The thought that has gone into appointing the cabins with all that you need and some things you don't even know you want until you want them is outstanding and one of the best 5 star quality stays I've ever enjoyed - anywhere in the world. The very scenic drive out to Yabbaloumbra took an hour from Caloundra, but was absolutely worth it.
We are going back - hopefully soon - to one of Qlds' best kept secrets in retreat getaways.
Thanks Barb and Lloyd!

Room Tip: There are only four cabins - excellent value for money. Not much to do there - and if that's what you're seeking it's perfect!
