We stayed in the balcony ocean view unit recently.

The good: Reception staff very friendly and efficient, great location, ocean views speactacular, good pillows, reasonably clean, good sized fridge and freezer.

The not so good: Very light in bedroom from street light - needs a block out curtain, single beds not great, furniture not so comfy, no couch.

Overall we had a pleasant stay, but felt the unit was quite dated.

Stayed: December 2017, travelled with family

Ok, so for the past 6 years our family have been coming to this gem. (Cant believe I haven't reviewed before now!) So safe to say we love(ed) the place. Budget friendly, close to 2 amazing beaches, short drive to the supermarket, pubs and town centre. Has recovered beautifully from cyclone Debbie which hit earlier this year. This is a review of the camp ground as we do not stay in the cabins. Although some of them seem to have had a spruce up. This is an older place, and to call it a resort is grossly misleading. But there seems to have been some effort to refurb, with one of the toilet blocks having been tiled and painted. The caravan spaces are mainly flat, some with pads, some without. Good for small to large vans and camper trailers. There is a boat wash down area and dump point. Most (if not all) sites are powered with potable water taps. Be warned, in peak season, people bring their boats as well as their vans, so parking onsite can get interesting. 2 amenities blocks are clean and functional. There is a camp kitchen that is covered by shade sails, has a picnic table, BBQ, microwave, cooktop and 3 family sized fridges. Wheelie bins are at the kitchen. There is one coin operated washing machine and no dryer (Bowen is windy and hot enough not to need). 1 hills hoist and 1 line- drying space is at a premium during peak. Kids have a ball here because of the proximity to the beaches and there is a pool. There is also a nice little cafe at the Horseshoe Bay car park. As the park is not bitumen, and owing to the amazing location, there is little in the way of grass. Bowen does get windy so it can be dusty. The staff to a man have always been welcoming and accommodating. UNTIL this trip. We normally bring at least 1 other family with us (that is in addition to the 3 families that come with us every year). This year I was embarrassed by the way that guests were treated at reception, and also ourselves when trying to rebook our trip for next year. Not friendly, not hospitable and seemingly wanting to ensure that "the grey nomads" were accommodated over and above everyone else. Customer service was lacking and the lady at reception seemed more intent on bollocking another staff member than assisting a return customer who was wanting to book and pay on the spot. The experience has left a very sour taste. Business 101, don't turn away a paying customer. I want to rate this place higher, and had I reviewed it on any of our other trips, I would have. But as it stands we will now be going to another van park, with a heavy heart, fond memories of what used to be a family favourite, our money and 3 other families. SAD FACE

Thank you for taking the time to review.
We are so happy that you enjoy staying with us. We are taking names of guests that would like to return to us for the long weekend next year as some of our Southerners have no given us their departure dates for particular sites as yet as they will already be in the park.
Yes this spot is a gem and we hope that you will all return again soon.

Camp one night.
Tiny spots - which I have learnt is normal for so many caravan parks to smash you so close together....
No after hours numbers for late check in available.

The best thing about this place is The Cove restaurant across the road.

Thankyou for taking the time to review. Yes I will admit in our peak times we are a very 'close community' from September until May you would have a choice of any site you like with not too many neighbours at all. Sorry you didn't get to experience our beautiful beaches and many bush walks. Yes the Cove is a great chinese/thai restaurant, also across the road is a great Indian and onsite is a quaint beach side café.
Safe travels :)

We loved this place! Friendly people, sites overlooking gorgeous beach, short walk to another truly magnificent beach (Horseshoe Bay), nice pool, friendly guests and staff. Probably our top pick of caravan parks during our 5 week road trip.
