An excellent Heritage Centre telling the story of this fascinating town. Good graphics and well-written text take you through the history of the town and tell you about lead-mining and quarrying. Manages to convey the character of the town through to today. Good cup of tea too ...

This is a superb small museum, thoughtfully and beautifully laid out with impressive displays. They are supported by clearly written text and good photographs. Good use is made of oral personal recollections which are interesting to listen to.
It also celebrates the famous people associated with the town. There is much to interest children especially the Dream Cave.
The staff are friendly and welcoming and the cafe is a lovely place to enjoy drinks or food. Excellent coffee too!

An excellent well presented heritage centre and we found it very interesting for all ages. Found the captions easy to read which I have found a bugbear at times in other museums etc.
Gives a very good overview of the town and its history.

We visited the Heritage Centre museum and the cafe twice! The first time they were just about to close so we went back the next day. A very interesting museum about the history of the town and the famous people linked with Wirksworth. Cafe served great coffee and various eats, we enjoyed the toasted tea cakes! Free to enter but you pay for the museum entry.

Situated close to the church near the centre of town, this recently opened museum is attractively laid out, has a number of interactive electronic displays, and contains interesting information about the history of the town, its inhabitants and its local environment. It was quiet when we visited it one rather chilly Friday morning in early February, and we will certainly return at some point – with our young grandchildren, who should find several things to grab their attention.
A welcome addition to the town.
