Owner description: With its headquarters in the fine old Peak District market town of Wirksworth, the Ecclesboume Valley line, at nine miles, is Derbyshire's longest heritage railway. The line runs through some of the most pleasant scenery in the White Peak, from its joint station with the main line at Duffield to its northern terminus at Ravenstor, close to the High Peak Trail and the National Stone Centre. The line provides services mainly operated by heritage diesel railcars, with four trains a day on summer weekends and on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays in the high summer. The timetable is designed to connect with East Midlands Trains' services to and from Derby and Nottingham. Visitors may wish to take advantage of a 'zigzag choo choo' all Day Rover Ticket issued by the railway and Trent Barton providing an excellent opportunity for discount travel through the beautiful derbyshire countryside by bus and rail. Steam hauled services are also operated at peak periods, please call us to check what is running. If you would prefer to see the line from the Driver's cab or realise a childhood dream by taking the controls of one of our heritage steam or diesel locomotives then you can book that day to remember direct on our website. We offer a range of experiences to suit any occasion and budget.

Deliberately visited this railway on a railcar operating day as I used to work on these fine machines. Was not dissapointed!

It was great to see 51073 has been restored as this is an old "friend" having worked on it and later in my career played a part in ensuring it did not get scrapped.

We travelled on 55006 which was not as fully restored as some of the others however it was in a condition that I remember these fine machines.

Dear Ian B,
Thank you for taking the time to write such a positive review of our railway and a special thanks for the work you did to ensure class 119 51073 was not scrapped. The DMU Group won the 'Railcar of the Year' award for their restorative skills which were further acknowledge when HRH the Prince of Wales visited the railway to meet the team and enjoy a ride down the valley to Duffield in the newly restored train.

We are glad you had such a good time and it would be a pleasure to welcome you back again in the near future.

With very best wishes,

My husband and I held our a Silver Wedding Anniversary celebration at the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway, we had a ride on the diesel train, then on the steam train followed by a service on the platform then afternoon tea in the Pullman 1st class carriage, the staff went out of their way to make it a most wonderful exciting day for us both and for our family and friends, we could not have got better at a first class hotel, everyone was fantastic.

My wife bought me the "Bronze driving day" on this heritage railway line as part of my 30th wedding anniversary present.

In all there were 4 participants and each had their wife with them.

The day started with a brief introduction and then we started off by of driving a 3 car railcar. All the wives were able to sit in the passenger compartment behind the drivers cab as each of the drivers took a turn to drive part of the 18 mile round trip.

Lunch was then provided at a pub a short walk up the hill from the station. Although there was no choice (unless allergies were pre-notified) the pie and chips provided were really excellent.

In the afternoon we took turns driving a class 31 diesel locomotive on the same stretch of track (the line was closed for all other services to allow us to have the experience).

This time the ladies would have had to travel in the guards van so they all chose to go off as a group to wirksworth and go round the shops.

The afternoon session was even better than the morning as it also involved having to shunt some freight wagons round so that some could be taken back to the depot.

I appreciate this type of day won't be everyone's cup of tea but if you want to Hark back to your childhood love of trains it's really first class.

Good company on the day helped as well.
