Visited here for a Sunday dinner, two children were with our group. We ordered food and drinks, 3 sunday roasts (choice of beef or lamb) very generous portions, it tasty nice homemade food. Everything was fresh. Obviously this establishment doesn't own a microwave, so all good is freshly cooked.
Nicest roast dinner in the area.
One of our group ordered the sea bass, which was cooked perfectly and came with a delicious sauce, served with me potatoes and fresh vegetables. Brilliant value for money.
The children ate from the children's menu, again generous portions and freshly cooked. Great value.
Lovely selection of homemade deserts.
Great table service and bar service.
The pub is nice and clean and welcoming.
All in all a lovely traditional pub with a very good menu, ranging from roosts, hunters chicken, sea bass, curry right through to chicken chunks for the children!
Will definitely be coming back here.

The best pub based Sunday lunch ever. Excellent service by all the staff. Other meals off the menu were brilliant. The chef must be one of the best for miles around.

Stayed here for a few days and ate here a couple of times , If your looking for restaurant quality then this is not a place for you , but if your looking Very good pub food then it does what it says on the tin , good portions and sensible prices we had the fish and chips which was excellent and the hunters chicken which was cooked to perfection. A must visit Pub if your in the area you won’t be disappointed

We (pre) booked into the Horse and Jockey in December last year based on the reviews that we had read.
Unfortunately for us the ownership of the property changed hands prior to our visit, which was booked with a ‘Deluxe’ room.
We were unfortunately (very) given room 2, which was far from (very) deluxe.
Apparently the breakfast and food was something to relish. Not any more!
I won’t say any more, I won’t post any pictures, all I will say is that readers of my appraisals know how fair I am. A lot, (very) needs to be done to get this place up to scratch as it was before. But would I stay here again, never, would I recommend to anyone else, never. There you have it!

We have visited Tideswell a few times over the years as we have friends there. We visited the pub for dinner on Saturday evening. The food was at the most, very average. We had to return our meals as the chips were burnt and so very greasy. They genuinely looked dreadful and even the lovely girl bringing them to our table did not look comfortable doing so. We eventually swapped them for sweet potatoes which made a bit of a difference. The menu choice was poor and the rest of our meals were very bland and tasteless. We were very disappointed. The lady and girl behind the bar however were exceptionally sweet and couldn’t do enough for us. They were friendly and polite and we felt awful complaining to them at the time as it clearly wasn’t their fault. The chef obviously has no pride in his work to send out food of this poor standard.
