We stayed here last week and we really enjoyed our stay!

The inn is very cute and cosy, we loved sitting having a drink in the beer garden. The food is incredible, I would recommend the pizzas. The continental breakfast was good too - the man at breakfast (sorry - didn't get his name!) was very friendly and welcoming! Actually, all the staff were fabulous! The room was spacious - we stayed in room 3, it has a lovely big bathroom!

However, the sleep quality here is terrible (and I hate saying this as I loved the stay and the staff!) but I couldn't stay again unless the bedrooms are changed. The beds are ridiculously uncomfortable and the heating needs sorting in the place, the radiators dripped and made banging noises all night - which kept us both awake - and my husband is a heavy sleeper usually! If they got their heating system sorted - and changed the mattresses this would be a 5-star review, and I would definitely return and recommend! However, the sleep quality is a massive part of any break.

I would return to Castleton and pop in for a drink and a meal, though!

Room Tip: We liked room 3!

We stayed earlier this week for my birthday and we both enjoyed our stay at the hotel. The pub is very cosy with lots of character as was the room. The staff were all fantastic and friendly. The breakfast too was nice. I have read a few reviews which state the continental breakfast was lacking but I wholly disagree. The hotel was in a great central location in the village- perfect for exploring all the local sites.
The only one downside was it was very noisy at the front of the building where we stayed with the church bells, street noise and very creaky floor boards and loud doors on the corridor. We did find it hard to sleep but in an old building in a popular location this really couldn't be helped.
Overall, we loved the staff, the food, the character of the hotel and would happily stay again.

My partner booked this for my birthday, we arrived on a Saturday afternoon and sat in the garden, however conversation was difficult due to the traffic noise.

The room was average at best, she was really disappointed with it, but it did the trick for a couple of nights.

Staff were friendly enough though.

The continental breakfast which was included was very disappointing, cereals, toast and Croissants, no cold meats, cheeses or anything else, which is what we expected, oh you can upgrade to a cocked breakfast for £7 ...... hang on a Sec wasn't breakfast included,

Restaurant was good, but overpriced, tourist exploitation springs to mind.

Would we go back here, no, we would use the one over the road, much more friendly

The room is out the back of the hotel and is a refurbished cellar. The access is down three concrete ramps, the turn on the top of the third slope leans a wheel chair to the left and has no safety rail to stop a chair from going over, I could not push an occupied chair back up. The door entrance was tight and for anyone on there own and wheel chair bound it would be impossible to get in. Also at the time we were their the door had no handles on so it was hard to get out. There is one window in the room situated at ceiling height. There is only toilet rolls and towels in the spacious wet room. There is not enough room to get a wheel chair down the side of the bed. The room is noise at night as it is next to a road. The Hotel its self was nice and the staff helpful. wifi is free but does not pickup in bedroom

Room Tip: Ask about the room and its location.
