The Lighthouse Restaurant was recommended to me by a colleague at work. She had been raving about how special it was. So - ever keen to try something new I tried to make a reservation. We had to wait a number of weeks before a Saturday night slot for 4 people became available. Clearly a positive sign of the restaurant’s popularity.

When we arrived we were shown straight to our table. The waitresses were all very knowledgeable about each of the dishes on the taster menu and as the course was laid out they gave an explanation of what was in the dish – a very nice touch.

There were eight courses! Sounds a lot but each course was relatively small in volume (just as well) but there was more than enough to give you a superb flavour explosion in your palate. My personal two favourite courses were the beef cheeks which was the best beef I have ever tasted and the mint choc dessert.

The venue is out in the country but beautifully decorated and appointed. The only criticism is that it was difficult to find and the local sign posting was tiny.

This was actually a very expensive meal, but considering the range of dishes, the quality of the food, the array of tastes and the excellent service then it was worth every penny.

The lighthouse is a rare beast in this part of the world - genuinely excellent food with professional service to back it up.

The tasting menu is reasonably priced and a great way to experience the skill and current thoughts from the kitchen.

If you are in the Derby/ Uttoxeter area and looking for the best meal around it would be moronic to book anywhere else.

I hope that Michelin do the sensible thing and give them a star in October.

Absolutely love The Lighthouse. The staff are all fantastic, friendly, very well presented, and extremely knowledgeable.
John and George are amazing chefs and create a fantastic menu! The a la carte menu is fabulous but the taster menu is my definite favourite, mainly because it is 8 or 10 courses in total and each course is delicious, full of imagination and cooked/presented to perfection.
We have also attended a few private dinner parties at the Lighthouse and they have always been spot on!
We will always recommend The Lighthouse to our friends and family and of course book in for our special occasions and treats as and when we can... love it! It is a must!

Loved it. From the Moment we walked in and had a pre dinner drink at the bar, to the paying of the bill - the service was faultless and the food amazing. We were a party of 4 and had the tasting menu. One of us - me - doesn't eat meat and is Gluten intolerant. It was not a problem to the kitchen at The Lighthouse - nothing was too much trouble. The Very green asparagus and pea risotto with broccoli I was served while the others had their meat course was one of the best, if not the best risottos I have ever tasted.
Such value for money too at £50 per head. We did indulge in a few bottles of wine, and the guys had the cheese course too, but still, great value for money and an amazing evening. We will definitely be returning. A Must if you're in the area - St Georges Park, JCB and Alton Towers - all a reasonable drive away.
