The Lighthouse Restaurant was recommended to me by a colleague at work. She had been raving about how special it was. So - ever keen to try something new I tried to make a reservation. We had to wait a number of weeks before a Saturday night slot for 4 people became available. Clearly a positive sign of the restaurant’s popularity.
When we arrived we were shown straight to our table. The waitresses were all very knowledgeable about each of the dishes on the taster menu and as the course was laid out they gave an explanation of what was in the dish – a very nice touch.
There were eight courses! Sounds a lot but each course was relatively small in volume (just as well) but there was more than enough to give you a superb flavour explosion in your palate. My personal two favourite courses were the beef cheeks which was the best beef I have ever tasted and the mint choc dessert.
The venue is out in the country but beautifully decorated and appointed. The only criticism is that it was difficult to find and the local sign posting was tiny.
This was actually a very expensive meal, but considering the range of dishes, the quality of the food, the array of tastes and the excellent service then it was worth every penny.
