We enjoyed a delicious three course meal from the set menu. All three courses were well prepared and beautifully presented, and the price was more than reasonable.

We would happily recommend the Lamplight Restaurant to anyone staying in the lovely little town of Ashbourne (pity about all the lorries!).

On vacation nearby, we visited Lamplight on the strength of previous reviews. It didn’t disappoint.
A quaint, beamed and ‘lamp lit’ 600 year old building, the owner served us with charm and efficiency, and the food was terrific.

We had our two children ages 9 and 11 with us, and were happy to let them select their choice from the main menu as we are not fans of so called ‘children’s menus’.

Our daughter chose the chilli prawns to start with, followed by the tomato, mozzarella and basil tart with dauphinoise potatoes, and our son chose the poached chicken with pesto on a bed of yummy lardons and lentils, then Crepe Suzette for dessert.

We can vouch for the French onion soup, Steak au Poivre and the lamb on a Parmesan risotto...sounds odd, but was wonderful; the Apple crumble/Creme brulee and the fruit filled brandy snap basket were lovely too.

Reasonably priced we thought for the quality, this is interesting, beautifully presented, perfectly seasoned, delightful food in a charming setting.

A pre-booked table for 8 on Saturday night and we had to pre-order in advance off the set menu, which was a little strange but we did so. The table was squashed in the middle of the room at the front of the building with tables of 2 alongside both sides of our table. It felt odd from the start and I'm sure became more of a problem for our neighbours as the evening and vino went on...

The chicken skewers to start were very good. The fillet steak cooked medium was a little over done but still tender, tasty and a tiny bit blush in the very middle. The sweet potato fries and sugar snaps were perfectly cooked and delicious. My frangipane tart and ice-cream again was lovely. I also sampled each of my partners courses and they too were lovely tasting. One common criticism was the belly pork was a little tough, not quite melt in the mouth and perhaps there should be a little more prawn on the prawn starter - but generally everyone said the food was delicious, with fabulous tasty accompaniments. Portion size very good too.

Service was warm and friendly and timings good.

An excellent lunch - just what a mum would wish for on her special day. The adults had the two course set menu and my grandson had a child's portion from the same menu. The food was well presented and everyone said how much they had enjoyed the meal. The service was very good - the waiters were friendly and efficient. We all felt it was good value for money.
