“What a wonderful Cottage”
Reviewed 9 February 2016 for a stay in February 2016

We were travelling up to Cumbria for the funeral of my aunt, my father is disabled and using hotels can be a problem. So I went looking for a cottage to rent for a few days to allow a rest day either side of the funeral for him.

When we arrived we were greeted by our host who gave us a quick run down on everything, and had even left us some fresh eggs and some home made scones.

After a 300+ mile journey, we got there after dark and all we wanted to do was have a cup of tea, something to eat and then an early night.

The following day we got to appreciate how lovely the cottage was. The master bedroom with ensuite is spacious and comfortable and suitable for a partially disabled person providing they can still manage stairs. The second room was light and comfortable and the twin room whilst smaller can be converted to a double if required. The main bathroom was large and equipped with a large shower and bath.

The galley style kitchen was very well equipped with plenty of worktop and a table that can seat up to 6. We found everything we needed was provided... with the exception of a tea strainer... but how many people actually use tea leaves these days. :)

The lounge was huge, with 2 sofas that cold easily seat 3 people each, and lovely little armchair in the corner where I would perch myself in the evening with my book. In the fireplace is a lovely wood burning stove, and a stack of logs and kindling was provided. We used it twice and it warmed the room up lovely and made it nice and cosy.

The house is simply and tastefully decorated, very clean and very tidy and it immediately feels very homely.

Amenities are close by, Wigton is just a few miles down the road, Carlisle itself is about a 20-25 min drive to the East and there are plenty of shops to get you food from.

Our hosts were all very warm and welcoming, Joanne does home made bread, jams and crumbles if you want to buy any for your stay or to take home.

Staying here made a very tough time, all the more bearable and all four of us commented how lovely it was. Should we find ourselves making the journey up there again... we will certainly be booking in again.
