We arrived at the Pennington Hotel to a cheery welcome and although we were a little earlier than the 2 pm check in we were given our room straight away. Unfortunately the room was on the ground floor with 2 tiny windows and which were facing the courtyard and the staff entrance to the kitchens so there was no view and people walking past could see into the bathroom as the windows weren't frosted but had lace stuck to them. First impressions were good then I started to notice that there were stains all over the carpet where the radiators had leaked, it didn't look as though the room had been cleaned properly, there was a towel in the bathroom that had lipstick stains on it and there were spiders everywhere, although i do understand that we were in the countryside I am a terrible arachnophobic. In the evening we tried the local beer which was lovely and ate in the restaurant. The food was delicious (we both had the fish and chips), although for the size of the pieces of fish that we received i do think it was a bit overpriced. The next day we went out and returned at 4 pm to find that our room had not been cleaned and tea/coffee/sugar/milk and towels had not been replenished but the girl on reception gave us some tea and coffee when asked and assured us that our room would be cleaned later. We went back out and returned 3 hours later to find that it still hadn't been cleaned. Breakfast on both mornings was delicious although the sausage seemed a bit anorexic and maybe it would be a good idea to serve up 2 sausages on the full breakfast instead of one. I do think this hotel is a little bit overpriced but it is well situated with stunning views (if you aren't stuck in a ground floor room overlooking the courtyard), the staff are friendly and helpful (we didn't encounter the surly staff as in other reviews) and I would return although I think a price of £95 per night was a bit steep overall I think its worth between £65 - £75 per night.

Room Tip: Ask for a front facing room for a stunning view overlooking the estuary

We live fairrly locally and had a trip out for a meal. Staff were gruff and food disappointing. Won't bother eating here again. The chips were underdone and nobody asked how the food was. I have experienced much better service and food locally.

We had an excellent day climbing the peaks and was looking forward to relaxing at a nice hotel. We arrived to be greeted by a girl tutting which was a bit rude, then a more senior member of the staff arrived with a face like thunder and we was made to feel like naughty school children. We was directed to our rooms and after this we all agreed we would rather eat elsewhere, unfortunately it was to late so we had to eat at the hotel. To be fair to the lady she did manage to serve us with fish and chips but we soon left after dinner to go to another bar. In the morning we did bring up when checking out how we felt and the lady did reduce the bill by £30. This hotel has a great opportunity to be a fantastic place but is let down by the fact it seems to be short staffed, overworked and not a very happy team. We was not made very welcome which put a damp squid on a great weekend.

Rooms are a generous size, and well maintained. The food is very good, and the hotel is next to the Inn, which does excellent seafood.

When I was there in March there was a power cut, no hot water in the morning, and I was double charged, without so much as an apology - which I think was a little disappointing.

It is a good hotel though, and it's much higher standard than most of the usual hotels for business users in the area.

I was there last week and in July 2015. In both the dates the rooms were very confortable and clean. The service were efficent and kindly.

It Easy to drive there and it has car park Close to it.
It could be a good location for holiday or for travel work.
