The hotel is beautifully situated in the wonderful Borrowdale Valley and has fantastic views of the lake (Derwentwater) and the mountains beyond. The interior and indeed the food is what you would expect of a four-star hotel. We opted for the five course seasonal dinner menu which was superb and breakfast was equally good with plenty of choices including my wife's favourite, Eggs Benedict. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable and our room was very well appointed with superb views of the lake. If you really want to chill out and get away from it all this would be a good choice. You should however note that at the time of writing there are some major building works going on but we didn't find that this detracted from the experience.

Room Tip: The lake views rooms overlook the road so there is some noise if you are a light sleeper

Had a weekend away here with our Chocolate lab who is very well behaved. The hotel is amazing and the staff so friendly and helpful, especially Flori who made us feel very welcome and went the extra mile to ensure our stay was perfect. The barman who does the cocktails (didn't get his name as had too many of his delicious concoctions) was very friendly and mixed the perfect cocktails. The food was delicious with plenty of choice and service so efficient and again staff in restaurant really friendly. Didn't think hotels of this calibre allowed dogs which was a delight as he was allowed in one of the bars after we had finished dinner. We have booked again for a weekend in September and considering New Year at one of the sister hotels. Perfect weekend and Derwentwater is absolutely stunning, perfect for families and dogs.

Room Tip: We were at the rear with no balcony but have a balcony, lake view booked in September

I was looking forward to this break due to the location of the hotel and also it seemed to be a very good hotel.

I was sorely disappointed.

Firstly can I commend the cleanliness of the room and cleaners, absolutely no fault there.

However the Reception, bar and waiting staff could do with some training in how to vacuum, Customer Service and friendliness. I am still trying to recall if there was any smiles at all, it made me feel stupid smiling at them.

For this price that this hotel is charging I expect exceptional service and there was none.
The bar staff were the first we encountered and the first impressions and from them it did not get better.

The Breakfast on the 1st morning came wrong and yes it was sorted right away but again for the class and money of this hotel, I did not expect to have to pull up the waiter and feel embarrassed to sort our order out.
We was was told there was no tomatoes and low and behold the breakfast came with tomatoes, unsure what was going on there.
The breakfast on the whole very mediocre have had much better in Weatherspoons, rather not have boiled in oil fried eggs.

The room was lovely, however the bed was like board. The mattress did have a topper which was as flat as a pancake and the pillows were very basic standard all seen better days.

As for the floorboards I was woken up each morning at about 6am and kept awake at night till after midnight, it actually felt like somebody was in our room.
Also it did not help with the fire alarms going off twice early evening and rushing round in panic trying to get dressed which turned out to be false alarms.

Shortly after a letter of apology arrived but woken up by then.

The food we did not have due to how expensive it is and same with the drinks.
We are not poor but we do not like being ripped off which these are doing.

Not again, it was a bit of a disappointment.

One last thing, expensive hotel and no wifi in the room also on checking out with this wonderful service we have had, we was not even asked if everything was ok and did we enjoy our stay, which at other hotels is standard.

The location of the lakes though as usual surpasses.

Room Tip: No views really in garden room only the roof and building site.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review on your recent stay with us.

I am sorry to read that your expectations were not met in some aspects of the hotel, however am delighted to read that you found the cleanliness of the rooms to be of a good standard.

It is very rare we get any complaints regarding the teams friendliness and customer service skills, but I am sorry you felt these were not up to scratch.

I'll ensure to pass on your comments regarding breakfast and will address the issues with the relevant departments.

Kind Regards,

It is several years since we stayed at the Lodore Falls, but it is much better now. We had a wonderful lake view room with half board. The breakfast was very good. Proper table service, non of this self service buffet rubbish, where people stuff themselves. I once saw an overseas gentleman take a full haggis!
The dinner was excellent too. A 3 course set meal with 4 choices of main course, all of which were very good. 5 courses were available with a wider choice if you wanted it.
The room was immaculately presented, comfortable bed, balcony with table and chairs and the bathroom clean and sparkling. The decor throughout was smart, fresh and traditional without being old fashioned. The furniture and carpets looked to be brand new to me.
The completion of a spa and pool for next year will make this place quite special.
Did I mention the view? To die for!

Amazing location, excellent room's.

Sadly a little let down by the service which is not what you would expect at this price range or star rating, the setting sells itself massively which is why I'm giving it 4 stars!

Would need to improve service to get 5 star. Try and win me over.
