Lovely hotel about 4 miles south of Keswick, staff were nearly all eastern european but very friendly and well trained. Evening meal and breakfast was very good with excellent presentation.Beautiful location on the lakes. Large free car park opposite the hotel.

Room Tip: Rooms over looking lake have lovely views

We booked the hotel for two nights in November as we got a deal through Secret Escapes. The reviews on TripAdvisor were really complimentary so we were looking forward to it. However we really can't understand why the hotel was rated so highly. It's very old fashioned although we appreciate that you tend to get mostly old fashioned type of hotels in the Lakes. We stayed in one of the Garden rooms and it was really small with the cupboard door really squeaky and difficult to open.

But the worst thing was the noise. We didn't get a decent night sleep on either of the two nights we stayed. All bedroom doors are so heavy so that they slam behind you before you even get a chance to turn around to close them. So as the guests were coming to their rooms (well past midnight - there was a wedding on) all you could hear was banging of the doors. You could also hear people talking next door in normal voices. You couldn't hear exactly what they were saying but it was enough to keep you awake. So much for a relaxing break.

We overheard another couple at breakfast who were there for their wedding anniversary also complaining about the noise.

We were really glad we didn't pay the full price for the rooms. At over £200 per night we would expect to get a decent night sleep but fortunately it only cost us half that amount.

On the plus side the food in the restaurant in the evening was extremely good. At around £100 with a bottle of wine for two we would expect nothing else. Unfortunately the bar food was mediocre. We had a chicken & bacon sandwich which was simply covered in excess mayonnaise and butter. Yuk. And someone should show the staff how to make a decent Irish coffee.

Apart from the tasty restaurant food another very positive point was the staff. They were all extremely helpful and friendly and always happy to help.

I don't think we would stay in the hotel again (even if there was an offer on) for the fear of not sleeping well yet again.

PS. The pool is really small so you may as well leave it to the kids.

Dear ‘mozartova1’

Thank you for your review. I’m sorry to hear you didn’t enjoy all aspects of your recent stay with us. I will share your feedback with owners to review the soundproofing when we refurbish the rooms. We have a number of room types and in general the higher the category the larger the room.

So pleased you enjoyed your food and thank you for being so complimentary about my team, I will ensure they receive the credit they deserve.

If you do decide to return please contact me direct.

Many thanks

We used the offer from Voyage Privee which reduced our cost quite considerably, otherwise we would not have booked, but we are glad we did.

Service was brilliant as was the breakfasts and dinners - it was just like cruising with Holland America, and totally comfortable.

We were in room 121 at the rear of the hotel which was fine but TV and radio reception is very poor as was the wi fi , but then we did not go there to listen to the radio or tweet!

Domestic staff were fantastic and did a great job. Will return when we see another offer.

Visited hotel especially whilst in Keswick for afternoon tea as had enjoyed sister hotel Inn on the Lake (top quality). Staff at this hotel attentive and asked if hot drinks needed refreshing. Husband enjoyed his hot sandwich/chips. Toilets luxurious, would hope hotel bar gets refurbished to same standard soon.

We came on a special 1 night deal through living social which was in my opinion excellent value as it included mulled wine and mince pie on arrival and a 3 course evening meal. We arrived at check in time 3pm and everything went smoothly and were given key to our room 115 being a fell room. On entering everything looked very nice so we dropped our bags and immediately went down to the bar for our mulled wine etc. The atmosphere was very good as lots of people there notwithstanding the terrible weather. Later on we showered, changed and went for our evening meal which we both enjoyed very much. Bit disappointed with just a choice of 2 sweets but even so the meal itself was good.
The only downside for us was a constant humming noise so I telephoned reception and was told that it would be the fans and that they went off around 8pm but unfortunately this is not so. Yes they did go off but they also came on again. I would go again but would ask for a different room
