First off, who we are...I am American and my husband is a Brit, who has lived in the States (N Carolina) for 13 years. We stayed at TRS for a week at the end of Sept.

We have been to this Grand Palladium property 7 times, the first 6 we stayed in the Colonial and White Sand sections. We fell in love with the animals, the jungle, the pools, the beach, snorkeling off the beach, and how big it is.

We STOPPED going after 2014. We got tired of hearing construction noise on the beach year after year, and I got sick of being sick. It never failed that by the end of our trip, I had intestinal cramps and diarrhea. We went just up the road to Catalonia Royal Tulum for 2 years and I didn't have that, so I discovered it WAS possible to go to Mexico and not get sick. But after looking into the TRS and reading reviews, we had free flights to MEX and figured we'd try one more time. Normally we can't afford this upgrade.

WE LOVED IT! They upgraded us to building 64, ocean view room, right behind Helios. So yes, you do look at the back of the restaurant, but we asked and were given the 3rd floor, which always has the best views, no matter where you stay at the Grand Palladium. So we could see more. And they did try to make the view nice with landscaping and even potted plants on the roof of Helios. And yes, you can see straight down into the "pools" below. They are really the size of hot tubs...

The down side...
We arrived on Wed. I got a cold on Sat. :( So I had to cancel my massage appt. When we checked out, we were still billed for it, so it took extra time to get that resolved.

And my hubby got food poisoning. We only ate outside of TRS twice. Once was the buffet by the Colonial pool (which was fine) and once was Sunday night at the Japanese show cooking. You eat basically the same thing as everyone else in this restaurant. Our differences were he got steak, I had shrimp, chicken and mahi mahi. He had ice cream, I had the banana. AND he ate the raw tuna appetizer, which I avoided like the plague. Before we even left the restaurant, he didn't feel well. Bloated and just not right. We went to the Colonial lobby (cause that's where it seems the only night life is now) and he was too sick to even get a drink. We went back to the room and he threw up every 2 hours all night, with stuff coming out the other end as well :-\ Monday we stayed in the room and I ordered room service it rained most of the day so...) even though the TV said juice and fruit was on the breakfast menu, they delivered it twice for us during the day, since that's all he was willing to eat (he kept it down once he was finished throwing up). So our rule of thumb is, don't eat raw seafood off the TRS part of the resort. I didn't eat any raw seafood on the trip and was fine. The butler Janet said she would put this in her report, and we reported it to the front desk, who made a note of it in case anyone else at the resort complained of the same thing. We lost a whole day of our 1 week vacation due to this. :(

But anyway, besides that, we loved the food. The restaurants really were great; our fav was the Italian (even though we rarely eat out at Italian restaurants in the States) and the Steak house El Gaucho. I loved that the Italian was like eating in Italy (been there twice); you can order multiple courses which are small, so you can try a little of everything and not feel like you will explode. I wasn't impressed w/ the restaurant; i tried the lobster souffle which I thought was very fishy. The lobster thermidor was excellent though!

I have food allergies to almonds and we have them to MSG. Every restaurant asks you what you are allergic to, but only the French restaurant did something about it. When I placed my order, our waitress told me what she "thought' I couldn't eat. But she wasn't sure. She suggested I not eat anything w/ a sauce, but I hadn't been effected so far in TRS so I ignored that and was fine. I would have rather someone KNOWN than guessed. We didn't come across anything w/ MSG in it here, which was a relief (Just avoid Guy's restaurant at the airport!) Nothing upset our stomachs besides said tuna appetizer. I just thought the food at Helios at the cooking stations was either too hot (you couldn't pick it up to get it on your plate) or too cold. We ended up ordering off the menu so we could have hot food and supplementing it w/ other things from the "buffet". I also get affected by wheat products which are low quality wheat and/or paired w/ preservatives and things God didn't mean for us to eat. I did not have this problem once; no horribly bloating or headaches while in TRS.

Special thanks to Alan, Jesus and Alain at Helios for breakfast/lunch. Alain hooked us up w/ some after-breakfast shots, like the Scooby Doo, which was amazing. And Jesus got me a juice to go when I explained my hubby was sick.

Butlers Janet and Eduardo rocked! Overall we asked them to make and then cancel our reservations to Chic cause we were too sick, and Janet got us a topper for the very hard mattress, which made a big difference. Eduardo also helped us w/ an awkward request (won't go into details) right when he was leaving for the night.

If you go to the adults pool at White Sands, you'll have it to yourself almost in the afternoon/evening. The bartender is usually bored so give him a nice tip and ask for "specials" and he'll supply you with some various shot concoctions while the pool is open :) We have found this time and again, year after year, no matter who is the bartender.

My biggest tip is DON'T STAY ONLY IN TRS!!! This resort is amazing and beautiful and there is so much to discover besides this section. Walk to the TRS beach section...yes it takes 15-20 minutes but it's gorgeous. The ocean walk to the beach is fabulous, and there's always a breeze. Go and get "lost" in the jungle-surrounded walkways. Skip the golf cart ride sometimes. Just go and enjoy. To give you an idea of size, they have a jogging path around the perimeter which is 3.9km. Walking to the White Sands or Colonial sections really isn't that far. The pool at the White Sands is lovely, surrounded by beautiful flowers and trees. They used to get gorgeous blue and yellow birds but I think they disappeared as they are apparently deterring birds at the outdoor restaurants w/ falconry. Which I like but still miss the birds. This was our 7th visit and we walked down paths for the first time ever.

One difference we noticed was that the POP staff are just more subdued about getting people to do things. No more shouting. Which I miss and don't miss, all at the same time. We struggled in the evenings that we weren't sick to find some entertaining. The TRS lobby had horrible elevator music piped in. We found that lunch time had the best entertainment?!? The blond DJ at Helios, the alternative rock duo at the Colonial pool, these were the best. I would happily listen to them before or after dinner in any lobby. The only band I heard after a show in the Colonial wasn't great, and the shows themselves that we saw seemed the same as 4 years ago. And yes, I think the entertainment should be more advertised, perhaps in the lobby of Helios.

Tip: if you need something to buy, go to the Kentenah lobby store. We got ripped off in White Sands. Cold meds weren't priced and she looked at the $ in our hands and said we could afford 1 box of meds and 1 pack of tissues. Went to Kentenah and everything was priced (got more for the money, shockingly...) and the ladies helped me figure out what was the proper dosage since I can't completely read Spanish. They even helped me get the right meds since I only had a head cold. So basically, bring cold medicine, and have Google Translate on your phone; it's an awesome app.

Our Room...
it was great. It was huge. I hated it. The open concept is a nice idea, but you can't hide your stuff. The glass closet? The mirrors? Not enough drawers? No storage around the sinks? All your stuff is everywhere. It was designed for aesthetics, not for practical usage. It looked so cluttered; not peaceful at all. And while you do get used to all of the mirrors, the doors into the toilet room and shower aren't opaque 100% and I didn't need to see my husband throwing up. Just sayin... but the room was always cool (I did miss having a ceiling fan) and we liked being able to watch English TV and ordering room service was a breeze.

Wine...
I am a wine drinker. My friends say I am a snob but whatever. I like big, earthy dry reds and loved their house Tempernillo and hated their house white, which was a very dry Sauv Blanc. At the Japanese show I got a half bottle of Mexican cab for only $15 which was excellent. Don't be afraid to try Mexican wine; all the stuff I've had was great. I found the house red outside of the TRS undrinkable. The drinks on the TRS cocktail menu that I had were great!

So basically, if you suffer from food sensitivities, give TRS a shot, but don't eat outside of the TRS. BUT go explore beyond TRS!! And don't eat raw seafood beyond TRS. :)

The beach/seaweed/water clarity varied each day. We were too sick to snorkel but the water was too cloudy at the beginning to try it. It looked clearer towards the end. The seaweed seems to come in and head towards the wedding Gazebo; this is from the water pattern and can't really be avoided. We noticed again that as the week wore on, there was less of it. But we still got in the water and enjoyed every minute of it. In the past we have enjoyed snorkeling just off the beach and saw a ton of stuff; and loved the boat trip to Akumel to see the sea turtles. Don't be offput by the seaweed; it's not as bad as we saw a few years ago in Barbados, and unless you stay on the western end of a Caribbean island, you are going to have to deal with it. It is what it is.

And finally, you will get caught in a summer storm that blows through. You will! Enjoy it!! Unless it's thundering/lighting, just make sure your necessities are dry and sit in the pool. It will be gone before you can run for cover, esp if you are in the infinity pool, which has NO cover nearby at all. By the time you leave, the rain is gone. It may take a bit for the sun to come back out but it usually does. You're on Mexico time anyway; what's the hurry?

Dear Bebubbly,

Thank you for staying in our TRS Yucatán after so long from your last visit to our Palladium resort.

We truly appreciate this wonderful opportunity that you gave us to pamper you with our luxurious services and we feel very happy that the results were excellent for the most part.

After reading your extensive review, we want to thank you for your feedback, your observations regarding the food have been transmitted to our team in Grand Palladium, and your observations regarding the food in Helios, the music at the lobby and other aspects that you notice that we can improved will be discussed with the respective departments.

Thank you for the excellent recommendations you have given to future travelers, this is the best way for them to know about the incredible adult only experience they could be enjoying in their next holidays.

We also want to recommend a visit to our new TRS Coral in Costa Mujeres, the decoration of the Suites is not as open, definitely more drawer space and less mirrors.

We leave the doors of our Hotel always open for when you want to return to live a great vacation experience.

Kind regards,

Rosa Rivero

What more could you ask for in a resort. This place has it all. Top notch service. Great food. Beautiful rooms. We had our wedding at the Grand Palladium and they took great care of everything. Some of the guests stayed in other parts of the resort (White Sands and the Colonial). Everyone had a great time. So much room at this resort so you’re not fighting for space no on the beach or a chair at the poolside.

Room Tip: Book at any resort and then ask for an upgrade to the Royal Suites

Upon arrival my first impression was wow this place looks stunning we were greeted at reception with a glass of bubbly and checked in at a private desk which was a nice personal touch. As there was no que of people behind us stood waiting they use a very clever bracelet system for room entry meaning you dont have to carry a card about everywhere and risk loosing it.
Our room was a junior royal suite we were on second floor block 61 our room overlooked the trees inbetween the path and the lake so not really much to see. Room facilities were good fantastic mini bar with 4 bottles of spirits which you could choose comfy bed nice rainfall shower and great jacuzzi bath 2 large tvs limited tv stations and movies have to be paid for at 7 dollars a movie our maids didnt leave the fancy towel animals as some other rooms got but they did clean the room daily and leave us a chocolate on our pillow every night maybe if we tipped more we would of got the towel animals.
The buggy system works very well you never have to wait long for a cart and considering the size of the resort and when i say its big i mean its huge there is also a app where you can track your buggy and see how far away it is.
Resturant wise we never had any issues anywhere the trs restarants were all perfect maybe to perfect if i could make one critisism it would be they serve the food to fast and dont leave enough time between courses apart from that they were perfect as for the other resturants we only tried one that was el dorado and we walked out because the staff at front of house were very slow there was 5 people infront of us and they were just stood about waiting we gave it 15 mins and still never moved so we left and went to ribs and more where we were in and seated in less than 2 mins.
All the staff in the resort were very helpfull if you needed them they were there the pool staff not so much we had 2 days at the pool on day one we were asked if we wanted a drink after about an hour, day 2 we didnt even get asked infact i didnt even see a waiter on day 2 and the area wasnt busy on either day so it wasnt asif they were rushed off there feet.
Entertainment wise there wasnt a great deal on the trs side they just have a show called chic which if im honest isnt very good at all it looks like its been put together by a bunch of children the dancers were out of sync the singers struggled to pronunce the words when singing it reminded me of a cheaply produced stage show the food was good and very well presented and the drinks flowed.
Would i recommend or return to this place most definatly yes within a heartbeat i would go back tomorrow.
Oh also we had our butler he was called marcos and worked villa 61 he was amazing any request it was done only downside he had the day off on tuesday and we never saw him again we were told he was off ill which was a shame as we didnt get to say goodbye to him if the hotel reads this please pass our best wishes on to him and thank him for being a super butler

Room Tip: Dont think it matters as all rooms looked great
