View was great, we were absolutely beach front. Very good restaurants nearby. Lots of bottled water provided by hotel. Parking at the hotel was nice and easy.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-The worst part was the unexpected huge amount of SEAWEED on the beaches and in the ocean around the hotel area. The smell of it rotting was awful and they had workers trying to move it in wheel barrow loads off to the side, in between the hotel and the restaurant, where it would sit in gigantic piles and rot. The workers never caught up with the huge amount of new seaweed coming in every day from the ocean. I now know this problem isn't present all year long, but it was extremely disappointing and affected the view, the smell of the breeze, snorkeling, walking on the beach, going to the pool. I wish we had known in advance that this sometimes happens around this time of year.
-The only street leading to the hotel from the highway 307 was crazy. It was jam packed with guides and hawkers trying to sell you tourist activities/trips, stopping traffic in the middle of the road to talk to people in cars. Then you have to navigate through a lot of huge potholes in the same road, bad deep potholes. Then you have to watch out for different kinds of speedbumps randomly placed, no real indicators or signs and some are harder than others to see. Parking is always an issue except at your hotel.
-Rooms were small. Beds were hard and uncomfortable

Room Tip: Verify if they are still having a major seaweed problem before booking!

We stayed in a 2bdr first floor walk out to the beach room. Akumal is one of my favorite places. The location of the hotel is great. The first floor units can't be beat as you just walk out to Half Moon Bay's beautiful beach. The unit was ample. We had a late check in and the key was left with the night security.

We did find the units needed maintenance as we encountered a couple of issues: moldy pack and play for our toddler, water seeping from the floor in the kitchen.

Room Tip: first floor with walkout to the beach.

The Good: Our hotel room had everything we could need: unlimited purified water, safe, hammock, fan, a/c, beach towels. Location is the best on Half Moon Bay in my opinion; snorkeling is right outside your door. Front desk staff was great. Would definitely stay here again but get a larger room next time.
The Bad: Weather conditions have created an inundation of sargassum on the beaches. Workers toiled all day every day to remove the stuff but it seems to be endless at this point. Every day brings new piles of the stuff. If you don't mind wading through 10 feet or so of it to get to good snorkeling, you'll be reasonably happy.
The Ugly: Unfortunately, La Buena Vida is only one of two restaurants within walking distance and is on del Sol's property. While their food is pretty good, especially breakfast, some of the bartenders and wait staff at night are incredibly rude. They ruined anything we enjoyed about the restaurant. Would never go back there.

Just returned from a week at Del Sol. The property was as expected. It is an older resort. The rooms were clean and comfortable. We rented a three bedroom condo plenty of room for the six of us. The cleaning service was great.

The problem is that the seaweed situation makes the beach unswimable. It is horrific! mounds and mounds of seaweed. And it stinks. We chose Del Sol because we wanted to be able to swim right from our resort and not have to go anywhere. This was not possible. We had to go to the public beach. I get it, it’s nature no one can control that. However, at the all inclusives in Akumal The seaweed was kept more in control. And some other areas near Playa were using tractors to remove it. In our area there were a men working on it with shovels and wheelbarrows, but the problem is so out of control that they barely made a dent.

My other main complaint is in regards to the pool. The pool is advertised as being part of the resort. But the pool is also in the La Buena Vida restaurant. When we went down to the pool my husband was told he could not bring his beer in and that he had to buy beer from the restaurant. We thought this was absolutely ridiculous. First of all if the pool is part of the resort that we are paying to stay at we should be able to bring beer to it. If it is not, and instead it is considered part of the restaurant then they should not advertise that the resort has a pool. Furthermore, we ate at that restaurant several times during the week and bought drinks at the pool and spent hundreds of dollars. Not allowing my husband to bring a couple beers in, beers he bought at their corner store, was total BS.
