If fine dining is your expectation, then skip the Grubstake!!
The atmosphere is old - but a mix match from the 1800s to about 1970...it misses the mark by miles.
We ordered our meals, based off the fact that it was near the end of season and several options were no longer available.
While waiting a basket of Porridge Bread was brought to our table. The bread itself was absolutely delicious, however, if it was warm it would have been so much better. If you really wanted to make it perfect serve it with little rosebuds of butter instead of pads of margarine. (Yuck)
The steak was absolutely done to perfection and I would go back for another.
However, the crab cakes and seafood chowder were incredibly disappointing! The crab cakes had the flavour of bell peppers overpowering everything else. The chowder had teeny tiny shrimp (probably from a can) and was watery thin - more like soup.
Overall, this visit was NOT worth the price of the meal. However, we feel that with some easy steps and small improvements it could be so much better.
