We bought a Grain Pie, sometimes called easter Pie. It was nearly as good as my wife's Italian grandmother's homemade Grain Pies. It was very nice & creamy, although the powdered sugar on top was a bit too sweet, but the orange zest gave it a very nice flavor. (grain is sometimes called wheat berries).
They also have a limited, but nice selection of Italian pastries. They come very close to matching the quality of the better Italian bakeries on Long Island& that is quite a compliment. We have tried them several times in the past & are very happy with all of their pastries. They certainly beat those overly-glazed doughnuts that people stand in line for because of media hype, but have no real flavor and do nothing but raise your blood sugar and contribute to diabetes.
La Gemma is Great Asset for the Wilmington area, the staff is very friendly and helpful. Stop in for some great pastries the next time you are in the area or make a special trip, you will not regret it.
I look forward to the next easter season just for another grain pie. BTW, order it in advance so it will be ready for desired pick it up date.
