Made reservations here since it was only hotel that could satisfy my long term lodging needs until apartment was ready. I knew up front, this was a low budget place to stay, just didn't know how low I was gonna go.
The online reservations went smooth, joined the loyalty club and found a online coupon for an extra percentage off the room rate for my duration. Was happy with that, but hold on.
I will give kudos to the staff there. They tried to help but it seemed their hands were tied at no fault of their own.
I understand the hurricane displaced alot of people and many were there to help with re-construction and cleanup of the area, maybe this hotel could of started with some cleanup of their place as well.
Check-in day: Arrived around 5PM. As I walked into the lobby, there were several people just outside the door smoking right by the sign that said: "Smoking not permitted within 100 feet of entrances" Cigarette butts and other trash was around the entrance. Doors were not automatic. Checked-in without any issues, received my key and went to the room. First room: A/C unit had a fan blade off center causing the unit to make a loud banging noise as the fan blade struck the unit when on, so that wouldn't do. Second room: Tested A/C, fan good, air good, NO HEAT. Thermostat was broken causing the unit...Made reservations here since it was only hotel that could satisfy my long term lodging needs until apartment was ready. Third room: Everything seemed to be working so I accepted the room as is.
Room Comments: Stale smell in room like carpet had been wet at some time and dried and that someone had smoked in room before. Cigarette burns on counter in bathroom was dead giveaway. Noticed dried powder in corner by closet so it appeared to be some type of cleaning agent not fully cleaned up. Closet just a cutout with a curtain to cover over open area. Only 3 hangers (plastic) available. Recliner comfy, but was unable to lean it back, handle not working on it. Bed comfy, sheets clean but had a thin blanket. TV 32 inch, about 20 channels with Showtime. Fox and CNN for news and local networks. Had to secure cable on back of TV a few times as signal was dropping.
Kitchen bare minimum. No pots/pans or plates/bowls/silverware available to use until my 8th day there. Fridge old but in working order. No ice machine, just two trays. Stove-top burners worked, just didn't looked to well maintained. Bathroom was small, door opened into bath taking up most of the room and hard to maneuver around toilet. Decent water pressure in shower. Towels were clean, but like other hotel towels, thin. Shower started to back up and I asked front desk for Draino, none available and they said if they did have it, they would have to use it for safety reasons. Cleaning staff and front desk clerk came by to look, but couldn't fix/help. I bought Draino at local Wal-Mart to unclog drain since I was up to my ankles in the shower. Also bought Febreeze to try and deal with stale smell of carpet.
Internet: Free WiFi extremely slow, sometime less that 1.0 Mbps and slower depending on how many were using at that time. They offered "Enhanced Speed" promising 4X the speed for extra $25 per month, never tried it, simply went to coffee shop next door to use their 50Mbps WIFI there.
Noise: It's a hotel, people let doors slam all the time
Trash: Trash was to be deposited in trash room that had three big cans. Room was overflowing on the weekend with trash bags, pizza boxes and beer cases. Finally cleaned on Monday.
Laundry Room: Plenty of machines, $2.50 for wash, $ 2.00 for dryer. Took credit cards/Apple pay/Samsung pay and coins. No laundry detergent available even in vending machines.
Building: Parking is at a premium, not enough spaces. Some of outside doors were broken so you couldn't use key-card after dark when they locked. They were fixed before I left.
Breakfast: Individual wrapped muffins and granola bars and coffee/tea available.
Finally got pots/pans/kitchen items after 8 days. They were old and well used/scratched. Plates/bowls/cups very small. Silverware mis-matched. They did provide dishwash detergent in individual packets.
Overall, like I said in title, you get what you pay for. I gave a overall rating of a 4/10 on their rating e-mail and I was contacted by the manager via phone and I wanted to speak with him face-to-face, but he never got back with me.
Spend a few more dollars and find somewhere else. If this is only option, hope for a short stay.More
