“Nice Day At the Beach”
Review of Salvo Beach

Salvo Beach

We went here after a rainy morning and it was a bit cool heading there, but the dunes blocked the wind once we got on the beach. The waves were somewhat scary for our nine year old, so put his life jacket on, but it wasn't as rough as further south.

It wasn't crowded and we enjoyed our time there, swimming, boogie boarding, walking and finding shells.

Very central to the northern OBX and Hatteras/Ocracoke areas. Perfect location for day trips Lots of activities on sound side or ocean side. Almost no commercialization here. Great family beach and perfect for family reunions.

Far away from the hustle and bustle of the northern beaches of Corolla, Duck, Kitty Hawk, KDH and Nags Head...lies the quiet trifecta of Rodanthe, Waves & SALVO.

We spent a week on the oceanfront in Salvo and it was exactly what we thought it would be...
Peace
Quiet
Serenity
Wide open uncrowded beaches

If I had to complain about anything...and it's a very tiny complaint...it's that there's not many places to eat out or buy groceries...a 15 mile drive down to Avon solves that problem however...so, it's well worth the seclusion and minor inconvenience!

Love you Salvo!

The beaches are clean and uncrowded. There are no lifeguards which was ok for my kids because they are disciplined and can swim. If you let your kids do what they want and not watch them then you better head to a life guarded beach. They will be washed out to sea.

We love the Outer Banks but, then again, what is there not to love! Fresh air and the quiet peaceful laid back atmosphere of Salvo. The beach is truly uncrowded, especially when you may be used to the Jersey Shore or even the Delaware/Maryland beaches. You only have a few rules to follow but outside that, just enjoy the sunshine and the waves. Now, if you are used to the Jersey Shore or Delaware/Maryland beaches, the OBX waters are something you may never have experienced and you want to have a few hands on deck if you are taking small children to these beaches, as a bad day at the Jersey shore is a moderate yellow day in OBX. The waters are beautiful but you need to pay attention to rip currents and the waves will give you a good work out. We will be back again, many times I can only hope for.
