“Old fashioned outback motel”
Reviewed 27 January 2012

This is fine as long as you do not have high expectations! 70s decor and quite dark. Good hotel bar and indoor barbecue where you cook your own meat bought at the restaurant counter. Not cheap food but the rooms are cheap and they have to make a profit somehow! Has a pool and beds are comfortable. Have a walk around Hyden and see the junk sculptures with the town history storyboards. Stand on the railway line and contemplate the outback...great fun...!

We found the motel very clean, the staff were very friendly and helpful and the pool was a great place to relax after a hot and tiring drive. Also loved the idea of the Bush Bistro where you cook your own meat (although the hot plates could have been a bit hotter) as you get to chat to other travellers. We thought there may have been a bit of noise at night but the motel was very quiet. Would highly recommend staying there.

On our way to Esperance we wanted to visit Wave Rock. The motel was dark, dingy and very musty. The bed was a king and linen was fresh and white but the bathroom was very smelly. We went to the bistro and the menu was basic grilled steaks which you cooked yourself (at $30 for a steak I expect it to be cooked for me). The grill plate wasn't hot enough. The cuts of meat were poor quality and the accompaniment of salads were limp. The thin crispy chips would have been the best meal on the plate except they were highly seasoned and too salty. I must say the staff in the bar were very friendly and helpful. I would not stay there again.

This lovely hotel offers absolute fantastic service and food to die for. The food range for coach tours is unbelievable. As a couple on holidays the cook your own steaks and the menu is better than any City Hotel ( even the best pub in Kalgoolie ) at country prices. The open indoor space includes a piano and space for 50 plus a locals bar for the casual break stop. An overnight stay in the 50 plus units all been updated and 200 solar electricity panels on the roof as part of a 500 panel local grid buy / feed back shows just how the people love and respect their town. There is a local IGA supermarket - we would recommend everyone to visit Hyden before or after the 2 hr tour of Wave Rock. The locals have installed some local metal art opposite the shop and hotel and its a stop is not to be missed and photographed

Room Tip: Choose a room that has morning shade that way you sleep until 8am

Relaxed outback motel atmosphere. A little bit run down.

We booked an executive suite for $195 a night and the room needed maintenance badly - big stains on carpet, bathroom light not working, curtains broken, knob off vanity in bathroom, security chain broken, etc. Probably clean but room maintenance issues made it look dirty.

Don't know price or quality of standard rooms.

Also tried to use gym (had to ask for key) but couldn't use as the gym was being used for storage.

Meals at night are in room where mostly you cook your own meat on an indoor BBQ and help yourself to buffet salad and vegs. Realonable quality and value food.

Room Tip: If looking for better quality accommodation, stay in B&B in next town (50k closer to Perth).
