My mum, teen daughter and I stayed here for a 4 night break. On entry to the lobby we were awestruck by the fresh flowers, decoration, chandeliers and perfect climate control. However on entering our room (345) we were met with 29 degrees and minimal air conditioning. We turned it on high and left the room for a trip into town amd on return it was still 29. I contacted reception who sent an engineer to look at it. From what I understood, the system is very old! We were offered a room change? However on checking the room, ths air con was warm. Reception were helpful and offered 5 rooms(!) for me to check the aircon in. Luckily the first of the five was spot on and we got it down to 21 degrees. I have seen in previous reviews that the aircon is a problem and definately something that needs upgrading!
The room was fairly spacious. We had a king bed and a sofa bed and a balcony with a sea and city view. The bathroom had complimentary toothbrush, toothpaste, razor, foam, soap, shampoo,.conditioner, comb etc.. hairdryer was one of those 'takes hours to dry your hair' types! We also had a huge damp patch on the ceiling which again, wouldnt expect in a 5 star hotel. The pool was fabulous, plenty of sunbeds. However the pool side can get very hot so flip flops needed!

We enjoyed breakfast with cooked, continental, ham, cheeses and patisserie options. Their was also a bread station with fresh bread and ths coffee and juices were gorgeous.

It was a short 8 minute ish walk into town (down the steps of the pool exit, cross the road, first left, 2nd right, then straight on into town). Lots of places to eat in town.

We did not eat in the restaurant as choices were limited for a vegetarian. It was also expensive, around €30 for a main.

All in all we enjoyed our stay at the Monterrey.and wouldnt hesitate to return.

Some tips... taxi to Girona airport is around €50 each way. Taxi each way to the town is around €6 - €8 depending on route the driver takes!

If you are dropped off by bus transfer they will park in the car park by a large roundabout. Cross the road and look for the metal gates and path. Do not make the mistake of walking up the sandy path as it is a dead end!

Staff were also helpful and friendly!

In such a climate the air conditioning HAS to work properly. If it doesn't - the rest does not matter! The air temperature is perfect in the lobby , but try to get it to work in your room - no chance! I've changed three rooms with the same outcome. The rooms are dated and in need of restoration, the choice of food for breakfast (which, by the way, is hugely overpriced) is very limited. Frankly speaking, it is nowhere near the 5 stars that this hotel claims to be. Also, if you guys advertise that your room is good for families with children, you might consider installing locks in your bathrooms as well. And a toilet brush wouldn't hurt either. The staff is very nice and trying to be helpful, but unfortunately they can't fix the major problem of air conditioning. When it is +30 outside, the air conditioning has to work, period. Four people in a rather small room with almost no air conditioning equals ruined stay and that's what it was.

Nice hotel near the beach. Room was not large but clean. Bathroom was good. Staff was friendly. Weak wi fi was biggest issue. Also not easy to access hotel if coming from downtown later at night. But all in all a fine stay.

Great location, 10 min walk to beach/bars via plenty of shops. The hotel grounds were fabulous, as was the hotel interior. Breakfast was great, lots of choice, outside seating was lovely. Superior room was adequate, balcony very small. Bathroom/shower was fab. Maid service everyday. Check in at reception was very slow. Hotel staff not overly friendly. We were given a notice FORBIDDING us to drink our own shop bought water beside the pool, had to purchase bottles from the bar - very expensive. Quite shocked by this, fair enough if we were opening bottles of booze and eating our own food, but bottled water...really? Kids not allowed to any blow ups in the pool. Poolside entertainment was a joke. Bar drinks and food very expensive. Think this hotel either needs to made Adult only or they need to relax a bit and let kids have some fun. It was ok for what we wanted, 6 x adults on a short stay. Would of been very disappointed if I was staying as a family with kids, for any longer than 2/3 nights. Staff need re-training and told to smile and chill out.

Nice breakfast with a good choice. Rooms clean and again quite nice. Found the hotel a little stuffy, not very kid friendly. Staff and guests alike a bit surly so not a very friendly atmosphere. I wouldn't stay again although it was reasonably priced
