Consider a neat and clean hotel in Xining. Carpet just renov, look clean. Spacious for two pax. Only shower glass door not so tight. After shower, floor will be wet. Breakfast eatable if not choosy. Only 2 lifts. Happen one lift under maintenance, need longer waiting time for a lift.

The hotel is generally OK. Clean and basic. Toilets and bath work. Hot water takes a while to arrive but available. Rooms are better than the appearance of the lobby. However my room went out of electricity twice in a day. Service response is slow. Heard from other occupants that they didn't have water supply for a while. Breakfast is typically Chinese and is not nice. Offer only water or warm milk as beverage and nothing else. However heard from locals that this is a relatively "expensive" hotel. Could have been better.

This is a modestly furnished mid-priced hotel without the luxury touches but still fairly comfortable and of average size. Bedsheets and towels were clean and looked quite new and overall room maintenance was good. The shower cubicle was somewhat small although water pressure and temperature control was good. There was an LCD TV but the control interfaces are only in Chinese. Wifi is available in the room but be prepared for a rather draggy experience.

The standard breakfast buffet was almost entirely localised even if there was an omelette station which could only churn out sunny side up eggs, and not very good ones at that either. Selection was quite limited and dishes were not replenished as needed though which is disappointing. The room service did send up extra pillows as requested very promptly though.

There is a small convenience store just to the right of the hotel and quite a few small eateries within short walking distance. I had a room facing the back and it was quiet in the morning. Overall, this hotel is decent value but improvements in the areas mentioned would be good.

Room tip: Get a back facing room for more quiet

Very often you know from the lobby how its going to be and if they care or not. Well the first impression was not good and it just confirmed it later.
Even for Chinese standard this is pretty low and no way even close to a 4 stars, 2 as best.
The hotel is old and was built already with poor materials and never been renovated. We are a group and all the showers are leaking and the bathroom flooding after even a short use. We could think that to renovate them will cost less on a middle term than the damage caused each time but this is not the way the management apparently thinks. Towels are grey...
The bed is slightly softer than a piece of stone and very enjoyable if you like the feeling of spring in your back as well as the sound of it.
This is very dirty everywhere. I don't think the windows been cleaned since the construction. It smells lamb on every levels of the hotel. You feel like cleaning up your shoes after walking on the carpet in the restaurant.
This is also a very Chinese hotel so don't expect anyone to speak English.
No wifi and no gym even if they keep advertising it!!! No international tv channels, only Chinese.
Curiously the food was ok and you can have coffee (instant I think) and fried eggs for breakfast.
In any case this is a two thumbs down and even for that price you should be able to find something much better over there.

I would give this hotel a better rating if it is rated for 2-star or even 3-star.

What's good -
* free internet in room (yes, it works)
* breakfast included with many choices
* safe deposit box in room to store valuables

What's not so good -
* leaking shower stall door - water full of floor after every shower
* no hot (enough) water for shower in the morning
- water is ok in the evening, too cold in the morning
* wall damage in bathroom
* bathroom sink faucet dirty
* broken hairdryer

In all, this hotel does not have enough goodness/quality to be rated as 4-star.
