Had lunch here on the Sunday before bank holiday. Food was excellent , initially I thought the service was a little slow as we had to wait for the wine to arrive after we had our starter but want really a problem as the afternoon went on it did become busier and I could see that staff were doing there best, the restaurant is lovely , the decor and table linen very nice with fresh roses on the table. Overall a really nice lunch followed by drinks in the courtyard because it was a beautiful day. Will definitely return.

As a party of 6 on route to Bicester golf and spa for the bank holiday weekend, we decided to have lunch at the Lion early on Saturday which started off our weekend brilliantly. Beautiful rural location, the Lion was easy to find off A41/M40 with plenty of parking onsite, with such a friendly welcome and an opulent and comfortable dining room.
Food was lovely with excellent service as we all tucked into a bread and olive starter to share, followed by steak and ale pie, haddock and tasty burgers for mains.

We returned on Sunday night for dinner to a much busier restaurant, but still service was welcoming and friendly and with our waiter Marrious giving us plenty of his time to chat. Sunday roasts included beef, chicken and pork with generous portion as well as delicious steaks cooked to perfection. We would love to return when in the area again, and would highly recommend the Lion as a venue to dine.

As a party of 4, we decided to dine at the lion on a Friday as a last minute decision and it was the best decision we made.

We all indulged in 3 courses. The Camembert starter had the whole table tucking into it and was absolutely divine. For mains burgers, lamb, pork tomahawk and fishcakes all excellent. Although not on the menu, the chefs were able to accommodate a request of sweet potato fries which was just perfect. Going the extra mile, with nothing not too much fuss for them was excellent service. Tamas and Jess, our waiter/waitress were brilliant too.

What made the meal extra special was the chef coming to the table to see if everything was okay. You don’t see many chefs making an appearance and it was a great chance to tell him personally just how divine the food was - thank you Mario!

Despite the generous potion sizing, we managed to fit 4 puddings in and they had the whole table trying a bit of each other’s.

I can not recommend the lion enough and advise you to visit and try out there new menu. Thank you Claire and the team, I will certainly be returning very soon!

Found this place by chance on the internet and was delighted to find such a charming pub, restaurant and accommodation. Had a glorious sunny day which we could sit under the parasol or full sunshine. Nice menu but would like to see just a few more gluten free options for sandwiches and menu. Look forward to coming back
