We meet up regularly with ex colleagues from all over the country and have come to like this place. We normally are around the Bicester area, this is a really handy 'country ' location near to M40 J9. The food choice is all you want, good snacks, very reasonable Menu of the Day but the a la carte is where we end up. The lamb was well cooked, sausages to quote a colleague 'were some of the best I have tasted'. All in all a good place to go back to for us, sat outside in October as well!

Lovely pub, service a bit sporadic however bar man friendly.

Long time between ordering and delivery of a salad and chicken Kiev.

On arrival it was a delight to look at and a good piece of cooking. On entry it was literally raw in the middle see photo.

It was returned to the kitchen with the kitchen offering to put it back under the grill or start again. We had s need for speed so it was cooked a bit more....

No offer of a discount other that the waitress saying it was not acceptable and chef was sorry.

Paid and left, surely you would temperature prove s Kiev that was probably prepped in the fridge ?

Great looking pub inside and out. Suspect they use local ingredients. Certainly the quality of the sausage bacon and mushrooms were all very good. Only slight disappointment was that neither of us wanted the black pudding or the baked beans with our full English breakfast and we weren't offered an increase in any of the other items instead so the portion sizes looked a bit small. The waitress was lovely. They are looking at adding b&b in the New Year so we are planning on going back.

We have come for lunch here twice recently. We thought that the lunch time offer which you could eat in the bar or restaurant was good value. We chose to eat in the restaurant .The whole place is really attractive,a very pleasant venue. We enjoyed our meal .True that service was a little slow, but staff were pleasant and welcoming. We would be happy to go again.

I have visited the lion many times before and it had always been lovely.
I cannot believe how much this place has gone down hill. I will not recommend it to anyone again.
We had a booked a table for 7.15pm well in advance and were seated straight away.
The waiting staff were quite slow to take our order and then told us there had been a few changes to some menu items.
2 of us ordered the fish cake to start which took a while to come out and did not come with a poached egg as described on the menu, when we asked the waitress if it should come with a poached egg she said 'yeah it should' and took them away, no apology. The starters were returned with over cooked poaches eggs on top.
At 9pm the mains had not arrived, when we asked we were told it was because we had starters, again no apology. After waiting a total of 2 hours and still no food we said that we would wait another 15 mins but if not would like the bill and would leave. We had already had 4 rounds of drinks by this point! We were still given no apology.
The mains came and we're edible but completely disappointing. The halloumi burger was the thinnest slice of halloumi I have ever seen (you get a thicker bit in Nando's as a side) and one of which was described as coming with flatbread was just served as a bowl of slop. When we asked for the flatbread we were told that they didn't have any. This should have been explained upon ordering. We were offered a slice of bread which was accepted but then came as a dry slice of bread and no butter was offered.
No condiments were offered. We had to ask the table behind us if we could use theirs.
No one came back and asked us if our meal was ok.
Plates were not cleared in good time.
We had to ask for the bill, the bill was brought to the table by the waitress who said that we had been given 20% off and that if we wish to visit again then they will make sure the service isn't as bad. Although 20% off was appreciated, this did not compensate for the poor service and below average food we received.
