My husband, 11 year old daughter, and 1 year old Basset Hound stayed at the Tar Heel for 2 nights. Super easy check in and check out. We received a text message when our room was ready and getting in and out of the room was simple with a push button code. The room was decorated in an adorable vintage beach theme and was super clean. I was surprised to return from the beach one afternoon to find our room had been refreshed, beds made, and new towels ready for use. I was under the impression that because we were traveling with our dog that maid service would not be offered. I was thrilled. Very easy walk to the beach just across the street. The pool was clean, refreshing and again, the vintage beach theme could be seen there as well. Our only complaint was that the beds were not very comfortable and the bathroom could use a fan (there may have been one, but I couldn't find a switch for it). All in all, great little place!

we had 2 days in a row with no maid service. The person at the front desk was extremely rude and confrontational when we complained about the lack of service. The past standards of this motel have not been upheld by the new owners.

Room Tip: don't book

This place is clean. End of good review. It smells strongly of bleach. The bathroom is so tiny you are claustrophobic. It is way overpriced. The desk clerk disappeared for two hours with no replacement. We booked here because we were under the impression it was owned by Village Realty, but that is not right.

We usually rent a house in the OBX, but after an email announcement of the newly renovated property and summer specials, we decided to give it a try for a few days.
Firstly, the rooms are very nice. King beds (a little too firm for me), very beachy decor, kitchen area with fridge (w/ small freezer), microwave, Kuerig, and toaster oven. The bathroom is nice, but really small!
This is a motel, you can park right outside of your room. You can hang out and talk to your neighbor on the benches if you want. We enjoyed our stay and will visit again!

This motel has just been renovated and is beautiful inside. Just got back home from our vacation. Clean, great sunny decor, pool, across the street from the beach, nice courteous staff, courtesy quality large gas barbecue grills (used those alot). We had a great time. I can't find anything to complain about. It was great! Definitely coming back!! Would absolutely recommend!!
