If you want fresh seafood dishes or beef or poultry, then this is the place for you. Try starting with the she crab soup. Probably the best you will ever have. Follow that with their fresh made pasta with the seafood white sauce or primivera. If you still have room, watch out for the dessert tray that comes around. I also recommend the seafood platters served with the fresh steamed veggies.

We came here again a year later, mid/late October, as things are winding down for the season. They do an early bird special this time of year, meaning you get 20% off your bill if you are seated between 5-6. We arrived at 5 and were seated immediately, and the restaurant was full by 6 PM. We opted for the shrimp and grits and crab dip appetizers again, both of which are fantastic. The shrimp and grits is truly spectacular - rich flavors, seasoned grit cakes with a rich mushroom sauce and generous shrimp on top. I opted for this for my entree as well, where you got some delicious green beans and three grit cakes with numerous shrimp. Definitely a healthy portion! Service here is always top-notch, can't say enough good things. This will be a regular stop for each of our trips back for sure!

This restaurant is amazing. The location provides a beautiful view of the sound. The owners personally visit each table to see if there is anything we need. The waitstaff is attentive, knowledgeable, and delightful. In all of the many times we have enjoyed dinner here, we have never encountered anyone who was rude or unpleasant. The food is just delicious! They serve a hot loaf of homemade bread while you wait for dinner. There is a "Lighter Fare" option on many entrees, which is just the right amount of food for older people such as we are. They offer a substantial "early bird" discount. We hope to celebrate many more anniversaries at this unique, special place.

We are lucky to spend four weeks in Nags Head and during that time we have eaten at Tale of the Whale three times. Every time was a pleasant experience with delicious food, gorgeous views and excellent service.
We have had excellent fried clams, popcorn shrimp, and grilled Mahi Mahi. Salads and sides were good with exception of green beans which weren’t our favorite.
The staff from the front desk to the table service was pleasant, welcoming and professional.
