Well planned area. CD descrbing the drive available at entrance for free. Plenty of parking at each spot. Good restaurant & a nice fudge shop. Enjoyed the hanging bridge walk. A fun day for family

Grandfather Mountain has it all beautiful views, hiking trails, a small animal park, museum and swinging bridge. The animal park include bears, deer, otter, and eagle. For that extra bonus nearby is a cafeteria and fudge shop. Further up the road are trails, a second museum and the famous mile high swinging bridge.

Thank you for the great review! We're glad to hear that you and your family had such a fun time. I hope you got to see our elk, as well, in the animal habitats. They're our newest additions and are really fun to observe.

Thanks again, and we look forward to seeing you all again on the mountain.

As we personally didn't pay $20 just to drive to the top of the mountain for a photo opportunity and a chance to eat at the restaurant, but it was just as awesome to drive a little bit off the pathway to sit and take in the view from the mountain overlook next to it.

Thank you for the great rating, although I'm sorry to hear you decided not to visit the park.

You may be interested to know that $20 doesn't just get you a photo opportunity and restaurant visit. While the Mile High Swinging Bridge offers some truly stunning and unparalleled views of the Western North Carolina High Country, the park also offers access to more than 12 miles of hiking trails (with options for hikers of all skill levels), environmental wildlife habitats that are home to rescued black bears, cougars, bald eagles, river otters and elk, a Nature Museum, documentary auditorium, 100-plus picnic sites, a sustainable fudge shop (as well as the aforementioned restaurant), daily nature programs, a Junior Ranger program for kids, special events and more — all included with the price of admission.

We're also a nonprofit organization, meaning all of our funding is generated from admission, souvenir sales, food and beverage sales and donations. All of that revenue goes directly back into the mountain, ensuring that it's preserved for generations to come.

Thanks again for the review, and I do hope you'll visit the next time you're in the High Country. We look forward to having you and yours on the mountain.

Sincerely,

We were there during the colors and I wouldn't believe it if someone told me there was a better time of year to go. The biggest thing to note is the possible hour(s) you might have to wait to get in. As well as the amount of time it takes to get to the top. Once you get in the park, it is completely up to you in the amount of time you spend there. There are multiple stops along the way and a CD that annotates the drive.

In my opinion, it is all awesome! However to truly experience the Appalachian Mountain range, go all the way up and take a walk over the swinging bridge. There is nothing more breathtaking than standing at the peak, with 360 view over a mile high.

Thank you for the great review, as well as your patience. Autumn is one of our most popular times to visit, and the lines can grow somewhat long. The reward, we feel, is worth it, though. For a future visit during this time, you may consider purchasing your tickets online at our website, which allows you to bypass the lines and access the park through a side entrance.

I'm very glad to hear you enjoyed the views from the Mile High Swinging Bridge. No matter how many times one stands up there, the views never grow old.

Thanks again for taking the time to share your thoughts. We look forward to having you and yours back on the mountain!

Sincerely,
