We stopped here prior to lunch to kill some time and were pleasantly surprised by how beautiful and well maintained it was! Only in the outer banks can you see something this beautiful for free! We probably saw over 50 turtles all swimming towards us. We also saw some heron and vibrant dragonflies and butterflies. It was a great place to walk as a family with little ones.

My husband and I like to walk and really like nature. We enjoyed walking this trail and watching the turtles and the bird that continually disappeared in the water only to reemerge several feet from where he went in. It's quiet and tranquil. There's even areas to fish and release.

This city park in the Kitty Hawk Woods reserve is great for a short visit. They have a very nice boardwalk winding around the park with many native species identified. We especially loved the turtle pond, though it's clear that some people must feed them. Please don't.

My wife and I brought our two year old daughter for a walk and had a great time. We saw what seemed like hundreds of turtles (bring some bread!), some fish, and some cool birds. The trail is nice and clean and has multiple areas to stop and grab some shade and a snack so the little ones can enjoy the sights a bit. We were here about an hour, including the small stop at a gazebo for lunch that we brought, which was perfect for little ones' attention span!

This is always one of the highlights of our Outer Banks trips. The smells and flora and fauna are great on the boardwalk.
