This place is absolutely amazing !!!! Hotel was great all the staff from front of the house to housekeeping and back of the house staff were so nice . Extremely close to the beach with private access for the guest . Indoor pool with hot tub & outdoor pool were perfect . Stayed in the efficiency room 118 was perfect to cook a quick meal . Rooms look just as pictures show . All in all this hotel by far exceeded my expectations even on the price. Would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone . Already booked our family Spring Break trip here . We felt like we were home can't wait to get back soon .

Shutters On the Banks is an excellent hotel! We (two adults, two kids (4 & 5 yrs old) stayed for 3 nights here. We checked in on a Tuesday evening and checked out on Friday morning. The hotel itself is clean and tidy. The reception/front office is nice with a sitting area and items on display. Each person we encountered working the front desk was nice and friendly. Ms. Debbie, who worked in the breakfast area was a gem! She needs a raise. She just loved on our boys and was so sweet to them. We had a first floor "dune view" room in the Tower building. You cannot see the ocean from the 1st or 2nd floors. We had a nice little patio area too. We very much enjoyed our stay and do hope to return again. Here are a few thoughts:

Pros: friendly staff, clean room, clean towels and sheets, nice sized room on the first floor of the tower building, short walk to the main building for breakfast, breakfast offered a variety of items to choose from and was good for a hotel with no real kitchen (waffle makers, eggs, bacon, sausage, fruit, cereals, oatmeal, breads, milk, juices, biscuits and gravy), cold fruit-infused water in the lobby every day, short walk to the beach, sitting area near the outside showers, pavilion between the beach and hotel, nice outdoor (shallow 2.5 ft to about 4.5 ft deep) and indoor pools (though we didn't use the indoor pool or hot tub), accommodating and friendly housekeeping staff, only a short walk or drive away from local restaurants, cool little "wings" type store in front of the hotel, beach wasn't crowded at all.

Cons: It would be nice to have an ice machine in the Tower building. The juices for breakfast are super watered down. The apple juice tastes like water with a hint of apple. Maybe that could be adjusted somehow. The only "complaint" about the room was that the bathroom sink was right there as soon as you open the front door. It's a bit of a tight squeeze. It's just the layout of the room though - no big deal.

Overall, it was a very nice stay. We have been to the OBX before but without kids. I think this is a great area to stay in to allow for more accommodations for kids too.

Hello Halia77,
Thank you for the review on your recent stay with us. We are so delighted that you loved our property and the staff was friendly and accommodating to you and the family. Yes, Debbie is defiantly a gem for us, she is great occupying the kids so the parents can eat. We have had some complaints on the juice machine and we have since fixed the water flow. We do apologize that the juice tasted like water. We do have an ice machine in our tower building on the 3rd floor ,we are sorry you were not aware of this. All our tower dune rooms are set up this way, but we do have other options in both the main building and tower that have different room layouts that may fit your families needs better.
Thank you again, for your comments and we hope that we will see you again soon.

We came so close to cancelling our trip which scheduled us to arrive just after Hurricane Florence's effects. Thankfully for the Outer Banks, and everyone here expressed this, this area so luckily escaped any noticeable damage. We were in the area for 8 days and had 7 days of full on heat and sun and humidity. Great summery weather. Spent 6 nights here in a pool view efficiency, in the main, older section. The room was very clean. Furnishings, bedding and towels all nice. Beds were a little soft, my back ached a couple of nights till I adjusted to it. Kitchen appliances all clean and in good working order. Air conditioner cooled the room perfectly and removed all humidity. Tv large and worked well. Internet never failed us. Not luxurious but we thought it was pretty nice and a good value. It was empty mid week and seemed full on the weekend, when we got neighbors who were quite noisy. You can hear from one room to the next pretty easily. All other nights were quiet and peaceful. We don't need daily maid service. There is no 'do not disturb' sign available, so we always had to advise the front desk, and our request was always followed
The pool goes from almost 3 to almost 5 feet. Very clean and refreshingly cool. Maybe it's saline because I didn't smell any chlorine. The area looks new with nice pavers and stone wall and all new chaises. No umbrellas but my shade loving husband was able to position himself in shade and we visited the pool at different hours .Hallways are very uninviting with older peeling paint.
Reception area and lobby was nice and quaint and we always were well treated. The breakfast was more than adequate, with hot eggs and bacon or sausage daily, along with waffles toasts etc. The hostess and host there are on the ball and I had every confidence in the freshness and cleanliness of the whole operation. You could eat inside or out. The only suggestion I would make would be to upgrade the coffee and the juices as I was not impressed with those options
The beach....what a nice beach! Lovely boardwalk and gazebo area leads you to a beautiful stretch of ocean. Because this hotel is not huge, the beach feels very spacious and private. Sunrises and wave watching and bird watching were world class. The waves were too rough for swimming for much of our time there, but when we were able to get in ….so warm. And showers to rinse off on your way back to your room.
Location was great- we visited Roanoke Island, Hatteras beaches, Duck and Corolla and none of the drives seemed out of the way. The Wright Bros national park just up the street. Loved our first trip to the outer banks and we were very happy with Shutters on the Banks as our base.

Hello EnzoX2,
Thank you for the review. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your recent stay with us. We have been very fortunate that Hurricane Florence missed us and went south. We do feel for the southern area and wish them the best in their recovery. You had a wonderful week with weather and couldn't ask for anything better but less rip current. We hope that you will come back and visit us again soon.

We had the BEST TIME at Shutters on the Banks! Our room was very nice and clean, all of the staff was friendly and helpful, and the breakfast was super! We absolutely loved Debbie's personality and friendliness at breakfast time - she made us feel right at home! The closeness and accessibility to the beach was very nice as well. Shutters on the Banks is in a great location - close to many great restaurants, and not far from Duck and Corolla. Over all, we loved everything about our stay, and we will most definitely be back!

Our visit was cut short by Florence and the evacuation so we only got one night in. Dune view, second level. balcony was great for a peek at the ocean and the dune view. nice to leave door open to hear ocean and feel breeze. pools are wonderful. outside one even heated. Breakfast was the best I have had staying anywhere and everyone was very nice. outdoor showers great extra for coming off the beach. easy to get to. wonderful beach location.

Room Tip: dune view second level gives peek at ocean.
