“Great place”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 December 2011

We got a cheap out of season deal and were very impressed by the value. I doubt we could afford this place in summer. The accommodation was very spacious and clean, a nice living area, fully fitted kitchen with full size oven, fridge and dishwasher. Pool / hot tub and the clubhouse all looked good although we didn't have time to use them and there is also apparently access to gym facilities but again we didn't have time to use them. If you are a runner there is good running at the Kitty Hawk National Park. The location is good, literally on the beach, but also only a few minutes by car from the Kitty Hawk memorial. The only slight annoyance was the internet charges of $11 a day, but they were optional so I guess you don't have to pay them.

Watching the sun rise over the Atlantic and the sun set in the west from a top floor condo at OBBC II are special experiences not to be missed. The grounds have been meticulously kept for years in spite of salt spray, strong winds and sandy soil. The units are very clean, well maintained and more than adequately equipped. The decor and furniture are replaced on a regular schedule, and it shows. There can be noise from the unit above or the deck upstairs, so a top floor unit is worth booking if possible. The staff are all longtime employees who are super friendly and helpful. Maintenance responds to service calls immediately. We go just out of high season when neither the beach nor the resort is crowded. Free WIFI is available in the clubhouse. If you choose to pay about $30 for WIFI in your unit be aware that the service can be unreliable, particularly on the beach side of a lower unit. It can be frustrating, but hey! You are on vacation. Try to live without it for a few hours! Enjoy the sights, sounds and smells of the ocean!

Room Tip: Oceanfront on top floor is best in a building with an elevator.

Was here in Sept. and it was a great stay. The staff was friendly, the unit was clean, and we enjoyed the great view! I would stay here again!

Room Tip: Top floors have the best views.

The Outer Banks Beach Club II (square buildings) is on the same property as Outer Banks Beach Club (round buildings). Our unit was on the beach side of the property overlooking the pool (5A). The walk to the beach was about 100 yards from the exit of the unit. It rained the majority of the time we were there so we spent a little more time indoors than we might have otherwise. The 2 bedroom unit is spacious, one room has a queen and the other has 2 twins. We pushed the twins together and that worked well. There are 2 full bathrooms, which is nice. There is a lot of closet space in the unit. The kitchen isn't large but there are 2 dining tables. The furniture is old and outdated, it's very 80's - dried flower arrangements and all. The staff was very nice, we were able to check in early, which was awesome as it was pouring rain. You can rent movies and do activities in the clubhouse. There is an indoor pool and hot tub that is good for rainy days, it isn't large, but no one else was there when we were. You can get a pass to the local YMCA, we didn't do this, but might have if we had stayed longer. One negative point was that you could hear a lot of external noise, especially when someone was rolling a suitcase along the deck, it sounded like rolling thunder and it seemed like there were a lot of suitcases rolling out there on check in and check out days. The beach towels they provide are pathetic so I recommend taking your own, but they do replace the linens for you mid-week.
Overall, it is a good place to stay, it is not luxury accommodations by any means but it was nice and met our needs.

Room Tip: try to get ocean front

We stayed at Outer Banks Beach Club 1, which is right on the beach. However, the high berms made it impossible to see the beach or the water except from the top-floor units. The book of rules in the unit was almost threatening, and they had a $100 charge on our credit card to enforce anything they didn't like. Kitchen supplies were minimal and of low quality - the housekeeping staff neatly folded the second-to-the-last sheet on the paper towel roll instead of replacing it. We were in a downstairs unit, and we could hear every step the family above us took (2 adults, 3 children) - the children must have been jumping off the beds and running incessantly around the unit. Rules at the pool said no glass containers (which is reasonable), but there wasn't a single plastic glass in the unit, and the promised vending machine at the pool didn't exist. There were no chairs, towels or other beach supplies, the front desk referred us to a company that would rent us those items but you had to rent for the whole week. Parking was extremely limited, and most of the amenities were in a building across a busy street. Overall, one of the least desirable condo units we have stayed in.

Room Tip: Go for the larger units, they tend to be on the upper floors
