Review of Guglhupf Bakery

Guglhupf Bakery
Ranked #2 of 7 Bakeries in Chapel Hill
Restaurant details
Reviewed 24 June 2018

Guglhupf in Durham is a fine place to go for lunch. Many in Chapel Hill were excited for the opening here. But it's only pastries and coffee - pastries excellent, delivered from the original bakery in Durham; coffee only so-so (immediate proximity to Starbucks and Brueggers may have been an error - tho I hear Starbucks is closing so many locations). Only a couple minutes away from Cafe Driade, where the coffee and the ambience are far superior - pastries good there as well.
Seating not comfortable. There are many fine options for meeting friends for coffee in Chapel Hill/Carrboro. This is not one of the best.

We recently moved our daughter out of UNC and stumbled upon this place. By far the best bakery in the city!! The pastries are scrumptious and the chocolate croissants were delicious! Fresh breads looked and smelled great too. We live 5 hours west in the mountains and I'm ready to drive back over to grab some more goodies!!!

Everything is delicious. This is where the 'locals' go! My family has been going here for over 30 years.

Love their breads and pretzel rolls. Would be even happier if they had a larger selection of daily items like offerings in the original Durham shop

Guglhupf bakes almost anything you can imagine, but their multi-grain breads are dense and delicious and the baguettes are as close to those in France as you can get without being in France.
