My husband and I have eaten here multiple times, And have yet to have a bad experience. From the food to the waitstaff, everything was executed perfectly and has made this one of our favorite restaurants in the Raleigh Durham area. We almost always take our out-of-town guests to either herons or to the bar adjourning it and absolutely love the ambiance this restaurant/hotel has created. Highly recommended but expect to spend a good amount of money, as herons is expensive but worth it!

Lunch yesterday. My wife, her mom, and me. Have been here 3 times previously for dinner. First time for lunch and first every visit for my wife and mother-in-law. They raved about it, taking in the ambience, well-mannered staff. If you ask for directions, the person you ask will take you there rather than tell you how to get there. If you say thank you, a young person will say you're welcome - rather than the ubiquitous "no problem" that has replace you're welcome if you are under 40. Expensive but worth it. You are paying for food, service, and much more. Tea was excellent. 2 different non-alcoholic "mocktails" were expensive at $8 but something different and refreshing. I did notice that at our table and a nearby table, the servers tend to push the more expensive options on the menu. The soup (tomato) and fried green tomato sandwich was truly outstanding. I had the blue crab salad which was fine because I was not very hungry. It was a little bland and I might try something different next time. The iced tea was excellent. No room for desert but I am sure that it would have been amazing. Service could not have been better. We were not staying at the hotel and there are very few restaurants in hotels that I would travel this far just for a meal - this one is truly exceptional!

This restaurant is inside Umstead Hotel which is 5 star, so as you would expect , this is a high end restaurant. The service is outstanding. The Food is awesome. The portions are small and it is very expensive place to eat, so good for special occasion,

My friends brought me here for a birthday tea. Beautiful table by the window looking out onto the terrace and water garden area. I have allergies to nuts and seafood and they worked around them the kitchen chef and service crew. Very impressed with presentation and food quality as well as creativity of food. Scones were wonderful as were a beautiful selection of tea sandwiches. desserts were the highlight as they wrote happy birthday on a piece of fine chocolate. could not ask for a better tea and finer experience. I highly suggest this place for Tea!
