Very tidy Little Cottage in Hatteras Village. The place has all the things one would need to cook dinner, or Just Hang out. If you want an ocean front, you had better book well in advance! Very Nice people operate this.

Room tip: book well in Advance

I'm 59 years old and my first trip to this motel was when I was 2. It's changed a lot since the old days because of devastating nor'easters. The cottage we used to stay in is now 50 feet beyond the breakers. But the Dillons (owners) have done a remarkable job remaking this wonderful place after every natural impact (i.e., rising sea levels, movement of the island west 1 ft. per year, and government inaction on protecting barrier islands). The family still runs the place and that's what makes it so wonderful. It's not a chain or corporate conglomerate. Your unit will be within just a few feet of the beach. We love staying in unit 100 because that's where the Dillon's lived when I was a little kid. We count down the days every year for when we're headed to the Outer Banks Motel. We'll be driving down this Saturday! Can't wait to be there. Friendly staff, beach so close, crystal clear pool, and a wonderful hot tub. The guests get to know one another quickly, share meals and drinks, and plan their next summers together. It's only 51 weeks before you return!

Room tip: Just ask the front desk (who will answer when you call). They know each of the rooms quite well and will recommend the best.

We have stayed at the Outer banks motel more than a dozen times. We have stayed in the oceanfront cottages, 1 bedroom cottage as well as regular hotel room. They have always been very clean and comfortable. This place has old school decor. We don't spend alot of time in the room as we our enjoying the beach. The staff is very courteous...This place is very affordable and close to town...We will continue to choose Outer Banks Motel when we visit Hatteras.

My family and I had to pack ourselves and our toddler up at 10pm at night after several three inch long cockroaches came out from under the doors, cabinets, and one even fell from the ceiling, which was the final straw. The nightmare began with a huge black spider in the bathtub when I went to give my daughter a bath, which even after killing the spider, I declined, due to the sand that was left in the drain and around the drain mechanism. Then progressed to the cockroaches by nightfall. We ended up finding a vacancy at a local inn. My little girl was horrified. Clearly needs fumigation and better insulation so that insects can not get in the weather stripping. Gross. Spend an extra $20 and skip the African indoor insect safari.
