Owner description: The nation's tallest lighthouse was moved to a different location to preserve it.

Unfortunately, we visited in April, before the lighthouse is open for the season. However, we were able to go inside the light keeper's home where there is a nice museum with information. Make sure to visit the beach, just on the other end of the parking lot. It was a beautiful spot.

I get chili bumps when standing in the presence of “Her Majesty” I have been coming to see her since I was a little kid and I feel like one again after my recent visit she stands tall and stable which is needed in this country!

We loved looking at the beautiful structure and touring through the Attendance houses. Great place for a picnic. The lighthouse was not open for inside tours on the day we were there. Check their schedule if this is important to you. We were there about an hour so this is a nice stop if you are touring the Outerbanks.

This is a must see attraction for anyone visiting the Outer Banks. It is currently closed for climbing until April 20, but the visitor center is open until 5:00 pm and the restrooms are open 24/7. You can also park & walk around the area there at all hours. There is 4X4 beach access by permit at all hours this time of year as well. This historic lighthouse is the tallest brick lighthouse on the east coast & was moved a few years ago to prevent its being claimed by the sea. It is operational, though the original fresnel lens was replaced by an electric lamp at some point. Don’t miss this gem!

Pretty neat how they moved the lighthouse to its new location. Beautiful lighthouse with a ton of history.
