“Wonderful place for a get away from the city and stress of daily basis. Excellent!”
Reviewed 25 April 2018 for a stay in April 2018

Excellent location on the mountain. The farmhouse was everything we expected and more. The house was spacious and the children enjoyed the large yard and neat sights placed by the owners on the trails.
Mr. Walton (the owner) was also very patient with the children as they have them help with the farm animals and chores. We plan to go back again.
The Old Farmhouse was clean and cozy with a spacious kitchen. I highly recommend this wonderful farm for a relaxing getaway!

“Had A Great Time”
Reviewed 5 June 2017 for a stay in June 2017

This was a great place for our family. Between the trails, the hidden treasures, feeding the animals, and the privacy away from downtown, this was our best vacation so far. The house was spacious. The children enjoyed the large yard and neat sights placed by the owners on the trails. The owners are also very patient with the children as they have them help with the farm animals and chores. We plan to go back again.

“Great Place!”
Reviewed 30 August 2016 for a stay in August 2016

The farmhouse was everything we expected and more. Such a great spot to be outdoors with our 3 year old daughter. Walton was a great host and spent a lot of time to help us feed the animals which she really enjoyed. The property and house is beautiful!

We travelled here on a joint mission to present at a conference in Boone, and take some photos and videos with horses. Walton was super kind about finding some models for us to show how an awesome grazing muzzle from Green Guard works. Flapjack looked especially handsome. It was really exciting to find a place that both accommodated our needs of finding a place close to Boone while also doing a little bit of work with the horses.

The stay itself was incredibly peaceful and cozy. The drive from Boone to the farm is absolutely stunning. Walton is also very flexible about how much interaction you want - there are plenty of amazing activities for families and kids, or he's more than happy to let you be while you enjoy the procession of peacocks and turkeys in the morning, and sit by the cozy fire pit roasting marshmallows at night. Walton is always in communication making sure you know where things are and what you might do, but is never overbearing. The guest book at the farm is also worth mentioning - it's truly an amazing read. There is a detailed history of Todd and the farm itself. I can't recommend the farm highly enough, and I'm truly grateful we got to spend an incredibly pleasant weekend there.

“AWESOME, MUST DO FARM ADVENTURE”
Reviewed 20 October 2015 for a stay in October 2015

We traveled here for a long, family weekend getaway. We had not traveled to the mountains in Boone, NC but wanted to spend some time and see the area. When I began looking at vacation homes, the Old Farm House and 100 acres stood out. It offers the best of both vacation options. We could stay on the farm and learn about how it operated, the animals, as well as hike the many trails.
Our first day we met Mr. Walton and the animals and began to be part of their routine. If you have never been on a farm or around livestock it’s a nice learning experience. My son was
intrigued, these are things they don’t learn in a classroom but by actually doing and being in the environment. Mr. Walton and Ms. Betty were very patient and helpful. Mr. Walton gave us very thorough instructions, advice, and all of us learned something. The farm is a whole lot more than the animals, you can hike, enjoy the beautiful views, pick apples from the orchard, fish for trout, look at stars in the night sky, cook marshmallows and make Smores’ by a campfire. We hiked to the top of the ridge and visited the ͞Seldom Seen Waterfalls.͟ The hiking area is pristine and offered picturesque views of the forests and mountains. We also arranged for horseback riding on the farm with Mr. Walton that was a one of a kind experience. We are novice riders and Mr. Walton arranged for a couple of extra hands to ensure we enjoyed our
ride. They ensured all of the equipment was adjusted properly for the shorter riders and allowed us to become familiarized on how to control the horses in the corral before going out on the trails. Hiking the area was beautiful and from the viewing vantage point of the horse, this is a must do! It adds so much to the experience.
The local area has a lot to offer in addition to Boone. We love small NC towns and West Jefferson was that and a lot more. It’s close, just a few miles away and has multiple streets lined with small stores and as a bonus the Ashe County Cheese Factory. The factory has a cheese production viewing area with a movie on how cheese is made. Across the street is the store where you can buy the fresh creamy cheese and curds with other products they offer. Bring a cooler with cold packs because you’re going to want to bring it all home.
On our last day, Mr. Walton recommended we take the Blue Ridge Parkway as part of our drive before heading home. It was an excellent suggestion that I highly recommend as well. It was a perfect closing for our mountain farm adventure.
The only troubling part was leaving all the friends we had made but we brought home a lot of great memories.
