I've lived in WA for 10 years and never bothered to do this before. My sister visited and we made the trip as tourists. My advice is... just go.
We picked this company because of the online reviews and it was a great choice and a great day out. Enthusiastic, knowledgeable and energetic staff on a really well equipped boat that looked brand new. We got picked up by a clean, air conditioned bus and driven to the jetty by a qualified Marine Biologist called Jess and Photographer, also Jess. Both clearly in love with their jobs and with a real interest in the experience and sharing that enthusiasm with the divers.
The group was a mixed bag of ages from 10 years through to 60. The ability ranged from timid swimmers to competent divers and everyone was equally accommodated.
The dives were supervised by spotters Jess and Nadia, both very reassuringly professional and strong swimmers. The safety boat was manned by the most laid back guy, Nathan who wore a smile all day. Skipper Frank worked the crowd and even turned the boat around when a hat went overboard. Jess the photographer was in the water for every dive.
The whole crew were legends. We had a quick orientation snorkel and six dives with the sharks. We all saw them up close. What really impressed me was the lengths the crew went to ensure everybody on board had that experience, to the point I saw Nadia dragging a guy through the water who had insisted he just couldn't do it. These guys will do everything they can to share something they love with you.
You only need to be able to swim a short distance and you will be closely supervised. If it gets too much the safety boat will whip you out of there.
We finished the day with more snorkelling in a calm lagoon teeming with life. We saw fish, sea slugs, octopus, rays, turtles, coral... it was just amazing.
The food was good and I felt safe, well informed, looked after and well satisfied. The staff ran around all day making sure we were looked after. Never once did I feel neglected or at risk and we came away buzzing. My son was the youngest diver on board at 10 and he had a blast. He's now talking about studying Marine Biology. One couple bought a 1 year old along who was fine and one lady just observed and still came away saying she had a great day.
We got a nice goody bag and look forward to picking up the complimentary photos taken by Jess.
Just a great day out. Loved it.
