What a way to experience Seneca Lake!
The boat was medium size, just perfect for enjoying Seneca Lake with a bunch of friends... And a dozen or so others.
The boat ride was smooth and offered fantastic views of the shores of Seneca Lake. The narration provide interesting historical facts as we passed the many notable landmarks.
We enjoyed a delicious roast beef luncheon on board. So plentiful, it was more like a small beef roast. Cooked perfectly and served with gravy that was so good it made you want to lick the plate! The potatoes and vegetables we equally delicious. Our meal started with a cold, crisp salad served with warm buns. Our yummy lunch ended with brownies and coffee.
Great service, too.
Be sure not to miss this Seneca Lake adventure!

After getting reservations and making plans for weeks for a special occasion cruise, a few days before the trip we were refunded our money with no explanation or alternate date! Very disappointed. A little bit of courtesy goes a long way.

We had the most enjoyable afternoon on the water that we have had in quite so time with Captain Bill’s. The weather was just perfect as it was not too hot or too cold and sun was shining and winds mild. This was our first experience on this luncheon cruise and it was pleasant, not perfect but pleasant.
We arrived in Watkins Glen at the prescribed time, half hour before departure time and went to this first place we saw with the name Capt Bill’s on it. This turned out to be the gift shop, however, not where we needed to go. A friendly cashier gave us directions to where we should be and we proceeded, but before we left my wife asked if she could use the restroom. Nope, apparently you can buy stuff in there, but no bathroom facilities are available. We were told where the public restrooms were located and it was right on the way to the departure point. So off we went.
We spent a little while admiring the beautiful countryside around the dock area and then proceeded to the boat. Checking in was very quick and we asked if we could change our seating to the upstairs since it was such a beautiful day. The arrangements where quickly made and we proceeded to our table.
The wait staff was friendly, accommodating and very active during our two hour boat ride. They worked hard serving dinners to a nearly full boat and we appreciated their effort. Particularly because we had changed our seating from the main deck to the upper deck and our server had to serve the lower deck and then claim the stairs for us.
Upon being seated we were asked if we would like something to drink before dinner. I ordered a Glenora Cab and my wife tonic water. Both were delivered in a few minutes in a plastic wine glass, We had ordered the stuffed chicken breast and it came with mashed potatoes and curiously cut carrot ensemble. The carrots looked like they were scooped with a melon baller, as they were very round and very sweet. Interesting. The mashed potatoes where served with a gravy and the chicken breast stuffed with a sage dressing. Our food arrived tableside warm and actually tasted better than I thought it would given the difficult conditions, I mean without an extensive kitchen and appliances. The entertainment got going shortly after we were seated and we settled back to enjoy the Doo Wop songs and our chicken dinners. It was very relaxing, the music Ok, albeit funky. When the group starts off with the “Nash Rambler song”, you just got to think…what’s next!
We finished dinner and were served a desert, some kind of chocolate cake. My wife tasted it and quickly put down her fork. It reminded her of those packaged chocolate cake pieces you can buy at a gas station. Translation, not good, I passed the desert round and ordered another glass of wine.

We moved to the bow of the boat and took some pictures, absorbed some of the beautiful sites and sun rays and before we realized it we were headed back to the dock. My wife stopped at the main deck restrooms before returning to our table. That wasn’t a good experience. My best advice is to use the facilities on shore before boarding or just hold it until you return to the dock as the restrooms were awful. Now the ship is not brand new, and it’s probably had thousands of visitors use it facilities, but even the housekeeping part was difficult to explain or understand. They were filthy and in need of serious maintenance. Sorry to have to report this Capt. Bill, but someone is missing an assignment and in turn creating a seriously important health issue.
Well the cruise cost us a little over $100 total and looking back, although it does seem pricey for the dinner, it did include nearly two hours of entertainment, and basking in the sunny Finger Lakes region for a good part of summer’s afternoon.
I do recommend two fairly easy fixes however, the desert needs work and the bathrooms cleaned and repaired.

We took an evening sightseeing cruise, which lasted around 50 minutes, as we feel that dinner cruises etc. are usually a disappointment, so have no idea what the brunch or dinner cruise is like. It was very relaxing and made a nice end to a busy day of travelling, and it was cool out on the water. The crew were friendly and informative, with just the right amount of information and quite to time to enjoy the trip. Staff at the ticket office were great too.
