The Kholle house is a beautiful historic building. It was built in 1860 on behalf of Princess Kholle, it was renovated a few years ago into a beautiful, discreetly elegant Hotel, an peaceful Oasis amidst the busy life of Stone Town.
We were warmly welcomed by Louisa and Anna, we were upgraded to a much bigger room than the one we had booked. (Thank you!!) The room was very clean and spacious with a little balcony, beautifully decorated, painted in warm colors. Even the bathroom was spacious and with a bath tub.
The breakfast is excellent, we had it in the garden by the pool! What a wonderful way to start the day!
We chose the Kholle house because it is really close to the Ferry (a few minutes walk), and you can easily reach every place in Stone town. But apart from the great location, Kholle house has so much more to offer. A little gem in Stone town!

Nice hotel with few rooms ... we rented rooms 15/16 . Number 15 is definitely the best one , with a small terrace on the top of the garden . The hotel is nice decorated. staff warmly welcomed us ... breakfast served in garden in also nice , with quick service ..

The hotel is 10 minutes walk from downtown, along nice harbor walkway.

One of the reason we stay in this hotel is the very close location to the ferry terminal (100 m) .

Beautiful, stylish, elegant, riad-style small hotel in a perfect location. A secluded sanctuary to retreat to, a few minutes stroll from old town shops and bazaar, the night food market and the major sights. 100 metres from Mercury Bar (named for Freddie) where you get cool sunset sea views and great pizza.
We loved the resident cat, who made us so welcome. Staff and management were amazing. Helpful, informative and welcoming.
Food was great, prices very reasonable.
We loved the refreshing pool in the little garden and the rooftop terrace. We loved the sense of history, the ambience, the atmosphere.
AirCon great, free wifi in all public places, ceiling fan, safe in room, nice bathroom.
Basically, we loved it!
Only one tiny niggle...if you are over 6', note the beds are a little short. Im 5'10 and was fine but my tall son needed more wriggle room.

The location is quite central and it’s hidden away from the hustle and bustle of Stone Town. The House may be rich in history and color but it needs maintenance. Most rooms are dark and there aren’t enough light. The stairs were uneven and quite steep, if you don’t pay attention you might loose your balance and fall. Outside there is a beautiful garden and a patio, which was my favorite part of the hotel. Kholle House was always clean including our room. But the pillow was quite annoying, it felt like it was stuffed with rice. The shower didn’t work properly, so I was basically sitting in the bad tub taking a shower, very uncomfortable. This situation could have been avoided if they only had checked my room before I checked in. I also specifically said that I will be traveling with a companion and the room was ready for just one person only. The noise from the outside was terrible, I woke up several times during my stay. The sunlight was limited. They didn’t take credit cards. The wifi kept disconnecting in the room and there were no phones there either. Some staff were attentive and some did not listen to me. There were misunderstandings during breakfast which could have been avoided if they paid more attention to what I was saying rather than assuming. This place has a lot of potential. Kholle house could have been one of my favorite boutique hotels because the original building is really beautiful. Unfortunately, it is run very poorly.

Dear guests,
Thank you for these thorough comments.
We shall close Kholle House from 1st March to 1st June to restore and repair what needs to be. It is an antique mansion and thus quite complex to maintain.
As for our staff, our new manager will take care of the real inconvenience you duly mention. And a significant part of our team shall be renewed.
We sincerely apologize for the drawbacks you have experienced and we can assure you that we shall do our best to correct them.
Sincerely.

We stayed at the Kholle House for one night and we really enjoyed this little jewel in Stone Town. The atmosfeer is really enchanting and beautiful with a wonderful courtyard with swimming pool and wonderful vegetation. The people of the hotel were super helpful and kind. Nothing to say !
