The service in this beautiful resort really makes it the highly rated destination that it is. All inclusive really is all inclusive, all of the restaurants provide delicious food and the staff are a real credit to Shandrani. Maxwell, Reena, Bradley, Ashley and Ambi were just a few that we had remarkable service from but every single member of staff was fantastic. The reviews about aircraft noise did worry us slightly but we did not find it disturbing in any way and actually quite enjoyed watching the planes go over. A beautiful resort providing a perfect holiday.

Having been to Mauritius on many occasions we chose the Shandrani mainly due to it being a Beachcomber resort and the quality that comes with the brand and also because of its closeness to the airport and therefore no long transfer.

The resort itself is huge and sprawling, much larger than the impression we had prior to visiting. There are 2 pools one at can end of the resort, a good 10 minutes walk from each other. We preferred the main pool, always plenty of sunbeds and never too busy, in fact the resort (due to its size) never looked overly busy. There are 3 bays for swimming and a wild bay at the far end of the resort where they suggest you don't swim due to the currents, very peaceful and quiet for reading there. As this was intended to be a total chill out week for us, I cannot comment on any activities in the hotel as we as we didn't do any.

Rooms - we had a deluxe room in block 300. The rooms are functional, but probably in need of an overhaul. That said, they were always clean and well presented and we had no complaints, and spent very little time in it anyway.

Restaurants - main buffet was surprisingly good, my pet hate is buffets in hotels as food usually cold and sat in warners for too long. Here is different, from the pizza oven to multiple cooking stations, the food was always fresh and well presented.
Le Sirius - at the far end of the resort by the 2nd swimming pool and a lovely setting. The menu was limited for us and probably our least favorite , that said the food was excellent and presentation was exceptional. We only ate their once.
Italian - excellent food and menu , fantastic presentation and quality was outstanding. We received a special mela cooked by the head Chef on our last day, set 5 courses, which were showcasing his talents.
Teak Elephant - whilst given a menu, you need to understand there is no choice , the menu just informs you of everything you are going to get. Lots of food, some pretty spicy, but beautiful flavours. It's a small restaurant and we only got in once so book early.

All inclusive - excellent and came away at the end of a week with no bill at all. Top shelf drinks included if you ask for them ! Ice creams, teas coffees etc all served on the beach and by the pool.

Dress code - Only strange quirk was being asked to wear a shirt at the beach bar in the middle of the day (its right next to the pool and people just walk straight in) the rule is fine if fully enforced and everyone gets asked the same, which many times it wasn't. It was however nice to see the evening dress code properly enforced with NO shorts or flip flops allowed for men in any restaurants or bars in the evenings. We saw many people turned away, so many hotels don't enforce dress codes, so well done Shandrani.

Weather - well I hadn't realized it was quite this wet in February - we had a lot of rain, in fact the 1st 2 days we had mainly rain. Rest of the week cleared with thunder storms for an hour most afternoons and sun in between. It's extremely hot and humid so be warned, we spent a lot of time in the pool, cooling off.

All in all a great holiday , everything Beachcomber was fantastic , having stayed at Le Paradis, perhaps a little below their high standards but great none the less.

The resort is a bit worn out but beautiful setting/nice rooms. The Bay is beautiful. Good sport activities.
Service is poor and no where near other 5 star hotels in Mauritius.....
You can keep calling the reception without any answer. When they answer they are polite but they have big trouble getting things done The drivers don’t come when ordered. Bookings at the restaurants are missed so you have to go to the buffet restaurant where cats are running in between your legs and pinches food from your plate. The staf in the buffet restaurant knows very little about the contains of the specific dishes. When you order lunch packages for day trips they either forget to bring it to your room, bring it one day prior or 1,5 hour later than promised. Mini bar not refilled- and when they come to do it they just put the drinks on the desk and not in the fridge. The pool bar has a large drink list but is all the time out of lots af drinks and ice creme and it’s only now and then they have slush ice. So it’s a bit boring for the kids to go to the bar. And they only serve two out of many milkshakes listed and they are ofte served varm..... Daily fra 2-5 pm it’s possible to have a light lunch /snack if you missed the set lunch in the restaurant if you been on a trip. After a full day of fishing we went for this today... but no food was served today since the kitchen was closed but we could have a sandwich... sounded good but the fact was that the sandwiches was left on a table out side under a cloth in 30 degrees celcius for hours and there where more or less a billion flies on top of them.... we skipped it and went for an early dinner.
No way near 5 Stars... so sad ‘cause it could be one of the best since the location is so beautiful.... not worth the money compered to the other 4 or 5 Star Hotels in Mairitius we have visited.

This was our 3rd trip to the Shandrani, although previously we've been in August with our children.
We wanted a week of winter sun with some fishing for my husband and Angelfish Travel got us a good deal.
It's a big, quite impersonal hotel but the large range of activities and really good food makes it a good choice. The food was great to outstanding, particularly in the Italian and Thai restaurants and we were impressed with the wine lists. The included drinks were such a treat, we played golf in the late afternoons and had a glass of champagne half way round.
We both love a gorgeous beach and the Shandrani has 3 of them with plenty of loungers and space. Beach attendants often come round for drinks and baguettes at lunchtime.
Before departure my husband had arranged to go GT fishing with Dom Thevenau and had 2 very successful trips. If extreme fishing is your thing then he'd highly recommend Dom.
The spa is a joy and we enjoyed some very professional massages.
Why only 4*? The wifi is very patchy and only available in bedrooms & reception. The service was fairly good (although our room attendant and restaurant staff were excellent), but not really up to 5* standards and the rooms are looking a bit dated. Not sure a kettle and sachets of instant coffee is the thing nowadays.
Would we return? Definitely.

Room Tip: Deluxe is probably worth it
