We visited the Mainstay with my parents recently for a weekend. Elizabeth was a wonderful host; she was friendly and charming, providing practical information and helpful thoughts on restaurants, sights, and outings. She was a fascinating source of history about the house and the area, and was both a great conversationalist and a discreet host--knowing when to engage with us and when to disappear to let us enjoy our stay. The continental breakfast that she provided was delicious and included a wide range of breakfast foods, and we all left the house each day for our sightseeing having been fully-fed and well-equipped to explore and enjoy the area.
The house is a wonderful old house, well-decorated and appointed. Our rooms were large and comfortable, and the beds were fantastic; we all slept like babies on the trip. The bathrooms are slightly small, but this is to be expected in an old house, and they were in no way impractical or awkward.
Overall, we had a fantastic stay in a beautiful and comfortable inn with a delightful host.More
