Stayed 3 nights - myself and my adult daughter. Our accommodation had 2 separate bedrooms which was ideal. Very well presented throughout and helpful staff. Breakfast included most things you could ever want to eat. A delightful stay.

The B & B is just lovely! Décor is in the 1708 period. Decorated beautifully for Christmas.
Nice to just explore the downstairs. Beautifully decorated breakfast table. There are plenty of very nice goodies for a snack.

My husband and I stayed at 1708 for a weekend winter night getaway. It was lovely in every way. Some B&B's tend toward the "too quaint", "too precious", but that was not the case here. Rather the house has great old bones which have been well preserved to enjoy. Not fussy. We stayed in a room in the rafters on the third floor. Super comfortable. Super clean. Quite beautiful paintings adorn the walls downstairs in the common rooms. Some are for sale. Owner and his staff are available to answer any and all questions about the area. Our pleasure to get to stay @ 1708 House

I have stayed here in number of times over the years even though it is very expensive ($400-500 a night). There are a few other options for lodging in South Hampton Village so even though we were never totally thrilled, we kept coming back.

The owner and manager are a bit curmudgeonly if you ask me. The owner is very elderly and seems to suffer from dementia, but he still occasionally answers the phone. Linda, the manager, can be curt.

The decor is quite adorable and the house itself has many original details such as exposed timbers. Breakfast is perfectly adequate - mostly cold buffet items and a few cooked things. The quiche was delicious.

However during this last visit, my girlfriend and I developed hundreds of itchy small bites all over our bodies. After examining them and googling them, we realized they were bedbug bites.

Disgusting!!!

Never again!. That is the last straw. We won't be back...

This review is totally unjustified, unfounded and libelous. We have reported it to Trip Advisor.

The facts are:
1. Unfortunately, under Trip Advisor guidelines, reviewers can write whatever they want since it is viewed as a “subjective opinion”. This review is not just, fair or factual and we want Trip Advisor readers to read the truth of the matter.
2. The guests were given an early check in on a Friday, at no additional cost.
3. The guests, who are building a second home in the Hamptons, were granted the use of one of our common living rooms for an impromptu business meeting.
4. Upon check out, the reviewer was unhappy with the room rate. His party had an original reservation for a two bedroom suite and upon arrival, he added an additional premiere king bedroom for himself and his girlfriend. He was told about the rate then.
5. The two bedroom suite (which has an occupancy of 4) was occupied by less guests and the price was lowered as a courtesy.
6. When trying to get a lower room rate for the king bedroom, he referred to a lower rate for a recent stay. It was explained to him that the lower rate was afforded to him the previous week because it was a last minute booking. In addition, it was a for weekday night, not a weekend night (which was case of the stay in question).
7. At no time during the stay did the guest have any complaints about their accommodations with regard to insects, bites or anything of the sort.
8. Our property, considered a temporary residence by New York State and Suffolk County, is regularly inspected by the Suffolk County Department of Health. In our 20 years of operation, we have never had one health or safety complaint.
9. We pride ourselves on the cleanliness of our property, which is serviced by a professional housekeeping crew on a daily basis.
10. We strongly believe this libelous review has been given as retaliation for not getting a lower rate.

We had to leave a nearby b and b in water mill due to the conditions of the b and b. This am we called 1708 house and they let us check in at 12 pm. They management here could not have been more welcoming and professional. It's even better than it looks online. Perfect location. Everything is well thought out and executed here . We will write more on leaving when we have time, and will also post a review of where we left in water mill.
